Meet the Moderators: HerbalNurse
Hey NursingLink members! Wondering who might be able to help you with questions about our community? Need some one-the-job advice from a seasoned nurse? Well meet your new moderator HerbalNurse! We think Joyce’s positive energy will be a great addition to our NursingLink community, and we asked her four questions to help you get to know her. So without further ado, check out her responses and give her a warm welcome.
1. What kind of nurse are you and how long have you been a nurse?
In May 2011, I will have been a nurse 21 years. I have been an Oncology Nurse for 12.5 years, and Oncology Certified Nurse 11.5 years. I have been a nurse wellness coach for two years, although my interest in integrative health has been for more than 30 years.
2. What’s the funniest patient story you have?
I had a cancer patient one time want to get out of going to court, so she came to my office and asked if I would write her a note that she had chemotherapy the day of court. Well, she either went to court, or not. But, chemotherapy wasn’t her excuse. I am sure that’s not the funniest story I have. I have soooo many stories. It’s the only one that comes to mind right now.
3. Describe yourself in three words.
Three words to describe myself: Integrative, caring, funny.
4. Anything else you want to tell us?
I am in the process of developing a nursing study to measure the effectiveness of a “tranquility room” for staff and patient caregivers on the Oncology Unit at our hospital. I have a deep interest in looking at the scientific efficacy of the non-invasive (aromatherapy, healing touch, prayer or meditation, etc.) on patient care. I am a member of the American Holistic Nurses Association.
