5 Tips to Maximize Productivity in Nursing

1. Don’t just notice problems, write them down

If you’re like most nurses, you’re too busy during your rounds to fix inefficiencies in the way everyone does things. Besides, as just one person, what difference can you really have?

Actually, one person can make a major difference, as long as she or he goes through the correct channels. Choose an upcoming week to carry a notepad around and jot down anything that is making your job harder, whether it’s the location of supplies or the way charts are filled out. If problems are documented and brought to a superior, there’s a good chance change will come, especially if you note specific numbers, such as how many hours a solution would save nurses, or (even better) an amount of money that could be saved.
