The Late Patient
Time is money, and when one patient shows up late, it makes the day more difficult for doctors, patients, and you! There’s a reason clinics and hospitals tell patients to be there 15 minutes before the appointment. The Late Patient is never in the right time zone, always running behind. She’s always in a rush, speeding to some place she’s late to, or hurriedly coming from some place she just left.
How to deal: Most hospitals and clinics have rules set up for people who show up late: from moving other waiting patients up, or skipping them entirely. Stay strong and stick to your hospital’s guidelines, no matter what excuse the Late Patient has. Making exceptions for the Late Patient can spin things out of control. However, if your employer doesn’t have rules in place, it may be up to you to rule on a case-by-case basis.
