5 Best States for Nursing Jobs

I agree with others.... where are these nursing jobs. They obviously did not ask any of the RN's or LPN's who are looking for work. I live in southeast Ohio and the jobs are few and far between. It took me almost a year to get a job as an LPN and that was only PRN. I am almost done with RN school and the job market is no better. I have friends who have graduated with a BSN and have been looking for 6 months plus.

TO ALL NURSES: This website's function is obviously to cater to employers hidden agendas by disseminating false information about the health care/ nursing market and pubblish very mushy subjects. I second the coleague who stated that the article (5 best states to work) rubs salt in our wounds. And if this is any consolation for new grads (it shouldn't be actually) experienced nurses with great resumes are also high and dry. But at least we can entertain some hope. Going back to the purpose of my posting: Check a good web site for our profession: allnurses.com It has depth and breath. It doesn't promote misleading information which can only help employers. If you want a forum to get united and take a stance to fight back for our jobs and earning power this is not it. By the way, just some food for thought: have you ever wondered why MDs are not unemployed and taking their hats off to employers begging for a job? Maybe that is because their leaders (unlike ours), their Association (unlike ours) did not allow for a glut of practioners in the job market like we, nurses, do by lying about nursing shortages, opening up more nursing schools, so we become a dime a dozen while employers and the American Hospitals Association rub their hands and grin with glee. Fight back brothers and sisters, write to your state reps, to the American Nurses Association leadrship even if you are not a ANA member, to your specialties associations. Nurses are the largest professional group in the US, 2.5 million strong, we could have a powerful lobying group working for us in Washington. Nursing can be a great profession but we must fight for it. And may the force be with us!

There is absolutely no job in LA or NY. I'm a new grad and I called and applied to all tri state area. My fellow classmates who are lucky to get a job are the one who got connections at the hospitals. There are so many hospitals close down in the Tri state area for the past years. And a hospital that i used to work for before enrolling in nursing school just had a major lay offs! So I really don't see where exactly is the SHORTAGE! the shortage need to be shorter!!!

I've relocated to CT from California as after 9 months of job searching I felt frustrated and disappointed and in addition my aging Mom, who lives here in the North East was needing assistance. Great time to come up with a new plan. If you can land a job there in CA, the weather is great, the outdoors fabulous, the pay is great although the cost of living is much higher as well . So I am with my family and regrouping. I have 30 years experience in health care, 15 as an RN (ADN)..Specializing in Hospice (who is always hiring) and Community Health, and Alternative Medicine. Id like continued time away from Hospice for a while and to try on something new in nursing. Several jobs I was qualified for experience wise, balked as I didnt have the higher degree, so I am considering more education to the Master's level so I can teach, which I'd love to do, and perhaps taking a nurse refresher course, or maybe Horticulture could be an option :) Id like to find a refresher that has clinical hands on experience. Any suggestions for economical education/refresher courses or other advice?

I don't know where you get these figures. West Penn Allegheny Health System just had 1,500 layoffs. Where exactly in PA are these nursing jobs? All I hear about are layoffs.

How would anyone feel if you have 24 years plus experience and hospitals will not hire you as they do not want to pay you for the amount of experience you have but would rather pay a new grad less..I have my resume up on 18 different sites and get a standard letter of thanking me for my interest in the company and nothing more after applying for most hospital jobs..No wonder there is a nursing shortage ...I am an RN with the specialty area of Pediatrics. Seems like they want more higher education that some of us cannot afford to pay...
