5 Best States for Nursing Jobs
NursingLink.com and Careervoyages.gov
New York
While the nursing shortage rages on in New York, groups are advocating for state funding of nursing degree programs and continued education. Although with increased advocacy, the shortage has also brought about higher salaries in an attempt to bring in more workers. The state of New York has also put together a task force on the future of nursing. There is an estimated need for 196,470 RNs, 55,660 LPNs and 112,450 CNAs by the end of 2016. That is a total of 364,580 nursing-related jobs that will need filling in the next eight years.

FL???? No way. I would make alot more money moving away from FL. When I started being a dialysis tech here, I was hired for 75 cents LESS than I made in Rhode Island 10 years ago. A major med ctr here hire new RNs off the street at 18.75/hr. In 1992, Boston Children's and Brigham and Women's Hospitals were BEGGING for RNs for weekends, starting at 45/hr. I'll be graduating in May 09 also, and seriously looking outside the state.

I am a student studing to be an RN and doing well with my classes. I've made some mistakes in the past and have recently discovered that I will run out of financial aid by my senior year. Anyone know where I can find some money to fund my education?

To the person living in Arkansas, Where do you work? You must be a CNA, because, I've flipped burgers for Min wage, and I make 60,000 as an RN. Quit griping and go back to school.

I currently work in a nursing home in the state of AR. I love what i do for aliving as far as getting to care for the people but its pretty bad that you can now get a job flipping burgers at the local Mc Donalds making the same pay as we do without having to go to college and not having to deal with the stress level we do!!!! We Are Unappreciated. To think you would pay the person fixing your food more than the person keeping you alive. Comments are welcome on this subject...

I am in the flint area of Michigan (mid Michigan) I've tried junior college, community college, online programs, My boss tells me NOT to go to baker. I would hate to go to a four year because I don't want to go through fours years of college just to find out I am not getting in because of a lottery drawing. It's frustrating. The governor of Michigan promised to change things if she was reelected, getting more instructors and has yet to do anything. I email her office once a week.

Yes Louisiana should be added. I am sure they have a great need. And yes we should make nursing attractive in long term care facilities as the population grows older. We must think of our care also. Why can't nurses be treated with just as much respect in nursing homes? Why shouldn't they have the advancement and educational opportunities provided in hospitals. Patients are patients where ever they are.

Have any of you tried contacting Chiara Bell? She's on this site. Her email is cbell@enurgi.com
They have a company where patients and healthcare personnel match up. It's basically for home health as far as I can understand. That's not a bad place to work, though. I do CNA and have worked LTC (you're right, they don't take care of their staff) hospital as CNA and Unit Clerk and am now doing home health. Right now, it's the best I've found in my area. Check it out. It may be something you will be interested in. BTW, she has not asked me or anyone else as far as I know, to "advertise" her site. Check her group Enurgi Nurses on here.

I am experiencing Florida and I have to agree with rischgirl as it relates to the salary here!!! It's very disappointing. I am a 10 year director level RN and I've gone on interviews, for management positions, with salaries less than 60K!!!! Unbelievable!

I think that Louisiana should be on that list b/c when I look in any newspaper around here, that's all you see in the wanted ads, nurses. It's mostly nursing homes, and nursing homes are kinda bad to work in, well being a CNA, they are. Maybe that's why they're always short of cna's and nurses, b/c the places don't know how to treat their employees. I dunno, but the medical field isn't for me anymore. I just quit, and i'm looking for something in an office. I belong behind a desk anyway lol God bless those who want to be there though
