Honoring Civil War Nurses

The American Red Cross Museum

Famed Civil War nurse founded the Red Cross because she recognized the need for an organized response to wars, chaos and natural disasters. The museum, which is located in Washington, D.C., includes selections from the Clara Barton Collection of the Red Cross and exhibits that explore the role of the Red Cross throughout the history of American wars. Free guided tours of the National Headquarters (site of the museum) are available Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 am and 2 pm. The National Headquarters recommends scheduling your tour in advance.
