7 Mistakes to Avoid in Your Nursing Career
Georgia Price / NursingLink
4. Letting Your Job Control Your Life

With late-night shifts and long hours, it’s easy to let your nursing career take over the rest of your life. Maintaining work-life balance is a key element in being stress-free and loving your job. Sure, there will be times when your 12-hour shift seems to stretch into a 24-hour shift, but leave that pressure at home. Remember to take time for yourself, your friends and your family – even if it’s just 1 night a week.

Great Post. This will surely help you to become a perfect nurse. These guidelines are perfect. being a nurse is not an easy job, as the patient's responsibility is on you.

For every job there are some skills and expectations to consider before you decide this is your dream job. It was my case when I was considering to follow a psychiatric career but after some discussion and interviews the peo company told me that an orthopedic career would suit me better. I am glad about my decision to follow the orthopedic career and I am very happy with it.

Another great tip to avoid as a nurse, and this one I learned while being an intern at Arizona Drug Rehabilitation is that the doctor is always right. I once got into an argument with a doctor because I thought a certain treatment would have been better than the one he had prescribed, all because I didn't have complete access to the patient's file. So it's always a good idea to trust the doctors' decisions.

Great tips. I just got burnout with my first job as an RN and quit. I know it was the wrong thing to do but what is done is done. So with my next job I will be putting these tips to great use.

I have appied all over Ca. know looking at Wa. and Nv. 2 kids and I thought I would be on my way. I worked really hard to become an R.N. and I love it I'm trying to stay positive. Any Ideas anybody?

So what do you do if you have made some of those mistakes? I made the mistake of having several short stay jobs. What do I do to fix that when I can't even get an interview?

nice article, I'm a new second career RN and I feel the advice here is sound. I would like to add for us new nurses, seek out a trusted mentor and for those experienced nurses nurture your proteges. This, i believe will go a long way in reducing carer mistakes.

Great article! Nice to see this advice here so it doesn't have to be learned through the 'school of hard knocks.' It's great to switch things up to experience the range of specialties out there, but sticking with particular specialty to gain experience is valuable too. Don't forget about long-term goals when just trying to get your foot in the door! And definitely give travel nursing a shot. -Jim http://www.advantagenursing.com
