We’ve rounded up the best nursing horror stories straight from the trenches and just in time for the scariest holiday of all — but don’t worry, these stories are more hilarious than horrifying!
As one nurse wisely said, “If I had known the medical field was this comical, I would have gotten into it years ago!”

When I was a CNA years ago, we got a complaint that one of our patients was wandering in the hall and foaming at the mouth! Upon checking, we found that she had eaten some foaming bath oil beads in her drawer thinking they were candy !!!

One Halloween, one of the OB/Gyn's I worked with called and send he needed to send a patient over for an NST. This was unusual, because he did his NST's at his office. The patient arrived, was gowned and put to bed. Upon my lifting up her gown to place the fetal monitor, I unprofessionally started laughing outloud, luckily so did she which made the jack-o-lantern painted on her 38 week abdomen dance. We laughed some more just as Dr. Gardner walked in the room. I is still one of my funniest stories. TAWBSN

One day we had this large female patient with an infection in the fold under her abdomen. She was complaining of vaginal discharge so our gyno ( a rather short man) did a vag exam. Well, my nursing supervisor and I were holding her legs and when the doctor was finished we let go and the patient then preceded to get off the table at the end of the bed. Well, the bed flipped up and the doctor's head all but disappeared!! There was nothing else left to do but laugh.... poor guy.

I was working the medical floor one day and recieved a call from hospital security. He informed me that one of my patients had called 911 from her room and informed them she was being held captive and that when it got dark the CNA's were planning on roasting her and eating her. She did, however, inform him that the Nurses had Nothing to do with it...but that we were in 'cahoots' with the Aides.

One time while working at an assisted living facility, I had this resident that was always doing odd things. Well, one night, another resident came to me and said that this patient was "choking his chicken" well, not knowing what this was I went down thinking that he was choking on some food. Well, needless to say, I got a real sight when I realized what he was doing in the patient lounge.
