10 Subtle Ways to Sabotage Your Interview

Problem: Thinking through your answers is always a good idea, but if it takes you longer than 10 seconds to start talking, you’ve passed the point of being comfortable. Taking too long to consider a question could imply that you’re mentally slow — or worse, aren’t able to handle stressful situations (and therefore not cut out for nursing). You need to show that you can roll with the punches no matter what your shift is going to throw at you.
How to Fix It: Even if you don’t have a solid answer formulated in your head, begin with what you do know and expand on it. Once you start, talking can lead to other ideas. Just be careful not to resort to thinking out loud. Slow your speech so that you have a few seconds in between thoughts to consider ideas before you articulate them.

" I recently went to a job interview,( I will not name where ); the interviewers,( 3 ),
actually LAUGHED HYSTERICALLY when I produced high school diploma / transcripts,
as well as nursing school diploma / transcripts.The interview was more like being
a contestant on Jeapardy:"Try to name / match all of your instructors you both shared,NOW."
I'm sure another candidate for interview has experienced such awkward experiences,
whereby you just want to CRAWL UNDER YOUR SEAT."

Gee, if you're afraid of germs to the point of avoiding minimum social contact like hand shaking, maybe the healthcare field is the wrong place to be working, IMHO.
If you've ever taken a beer to a job interview, you might be a redneck. However a wine cooler shows real sophistication. Also In My Humble Opinion.

I recently went for an interview and when I presented my hand for a handshake, the HR officer told me "I'm sorry, I can't shake your hand because of the Swine Flu".

In my past two interviews, both interviewers have declined to shake my hand for sanitiation purposes. The first was just coming back after being out with a cold and didn't want to unintentionally infect me, and the second told me that hospital policy had shifted away from unneccessary personal contact because of concerns about the swine flu.
