And who are you Nina Kim (writer of this article)? Statistics would not be much different if you would do the same among nurses. All people are just people. I bet you have your little nasty habit that you keep from others. Why pushing health providers - doctors and nurses - against each others. They are team!! They HAVE TO RESPECT each other, no matter what!! Posting things like this is treason of health industry and intentional call for fight! SHAME! And shame on nurses and doctors that accept thrown bone.

I am not surprised at all to hear this, they are just as human as the people that they take care of. The person who wrote this is looking for a fight and wants to pick apart these poor doctors.
What they should be writing about is the fact that there are less and less new doctors going into the field, why you may wonder, why would anyone want to become something that everyone else thinks of as one who never understands what is going on and who knows nothing about the human body. They went to school for how many years and you are to tell me that they know nothing of the human body. The problem is that they get tired just like everyone else and when day in and day out they deal with thankless people, who think they ignorant because they cannot cure there disease. Well these people would not have these diseases if they would change the way that they live and use some of valuable information that we have so much of but are failing to use.

Not shocked at all, having worked for them. As a nursing student, I think it's a good thing that I know the failings of (some) of the people I will be working with. They are good ones, and ones who play by the rules, but in today's society, being good and following the rules usually doesn't win you much; something doctors are obsessed with, especially in regards to prestige.

It's better to give a teenager birth control, than refuse them (knowing they'll probably get pregnant). Pregnancy has more risks than birth control. It's not surprising that drs. cover each other, because there are so many patients that would sue over any little thing. The world is sue-happy. What's wrong with getting freebies? I've been given some of those free sample meds when I couldn't afford to buy them myself.

To note some unethical practices regarding physicans, all you have to do is work at a long term care facility for a few weeks...ahhhh...you won't believe what you will find out about physicians.

maryellen001 - It may not be as "wrong" as the tickets to sporting events and vacations but it's still not right. For one thing, there has been extensive research to show that if these companies stopped paying doctors and giving freebies, the costs of their medications would drastically decrease! So don't tell someone who has to pay $342 a month for a medication that it's not wrong. Not only that, but it's not right to try to persuade Drs. to prescribe certain medications when something else might be better for the patient. I used to go to a doctor that would prescribe me the weirdest things - I complained of feeling tired and being cold all the time, and he prescribed Zoloft! Turns out I was hypothyroid and he was just prescribing it because he had a meeting with a Zoloft rep that day. Needless to say, I stopped going to him.

I have been in the medical business since I was born - my mom is a nurse and I would spend days hanging out at the hospital and listening to all the nurses talk. When I became 16, I was a CNA and I dealt with drs a little but more. When I became 19, I went to nursing school. When I was 21, I got my RN. When I was 22, I got my BSN. These facts do not surprise me at all - I just wish patients knew about them. Another surprising fact (at least where I work LOL) is that probably 25-30% of all doctors are at least a little incompetent. They don't listen to their patients, they do what they want to do, and screw everyone else! I can't count how many times I've had to remind this one doctor that some patients were allergic to certain drugs that he was about to order!
