State's New Scholarships Help Two-Year LPN Students
The Decatur Daily
A new scholarship will be available this fall to licensed practical nursing students at Calhoun Community College and other state two-year colleges.
The Alabama Nursing Home Association Education Foundation will provide 44 scholarships statewide each semester, Executive Director Louis E. Cottrell said Monday.
Each of the state’s 22 community colleges offering LPN programs, including Calhoun, will get two $500 scholarships per semester from the foundation. Students may receive the scholarships for up to two semesters. Big boost for students
Community college Chancellor Bradley Byrne called the scholarships “a big boost” for students who often juggle children and jobs along with classwork.
Byrne said the two-year college system has about 4,000 students in LPN courses. The average cost to complete LPN training is about $5,000, and Byrne said many programs have waiting lists.
LPN students interested in applying for the scholarships should contact the director of nursing at their community college.
