Hello! Your schedule sounds a lot like mine. I am off this weekend and go in on Sunday night, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and I am off Thursday. Then I work Friday, Sat, Sun, and Mon and have Tuesday off then work Wed, Thurs and then the weekend off. It gets confusing at times. I often don't really know what day it is. I got off this morning and slept about two hours and got up. I ran errands all day. I had so much to do. Now I am so tired. I am forcing myself to stay awake another hour and then I am going to bed. You get tornadoes there? We can to. We had a hail storm about two weeks ago. Some areas of town got so much it was 2-3 inches deep. At my house it only hailed for about a minute. At my job I come in and do narc count and report then I pass a few pills at midnight, do charting and then give sleeping pills or pain pills for awhile. I have lots of little paperwork tasks I have to do to. I fill out appointment paperwork for those who are going to dialysis, the doctor, the dentist etc, and I fill out the paperwork for the labs that need to be done to. I have a census sheet of how many residents I have at midnight. Last night I had forty one. Two in hospital and one was transferred to Douglas County another facility. Then about four am to 6 am I pass more pills. I finish up with the narc count and report. All night long though there are the drama folks who think they are dying and that takes up a lot of my time. I have learned to write fast to get the charting over with. HA! I have alot of folks who tell the CNA that they have to talk to me. So I go in there to have them want me to set out their clothes, hand them the tv remote or something that the CNA could have done. That really is what irritates me. I know they get lonely and want to talk and be coddled, but it really slows me down!

Good afternoon! I work at a nursing home that is about four miles away. I think that most of the hospitals have only RN's and no LPN's. I do have about 44 patients each night by myself. That is why I have been so scared! On the other two shifts there are two nurses, one for each hallway. I work eight hours a day to and it goes fast. I have to work every other weekend to. This was my weekend off and I picked up a shift for tonight (overtime). I guess they figure that overnight most of the patients are sleeping. I have two CNA's to take care of lights and do vitals for me. Some of the aides are better than others. I had one who did vitals for me and had respiratory rates of 58, 44, and 67. LOL When I questioned if they were sleeping or working out, he didn't get it. Another gave me a B/P of 250/43. I went and got that one myself and she was only 124/74. Then there are some of the aides who are great and very helpful with things. I bring candy in for them :) I can see where the schedule change of 12 hr days to 8 hour days would be hard to get used to. When you have the time off you really cherish it!! I sort of regret telling them I would work tonight!! I had to get my toilet fixed so this will help pay for that, since I hadn't planned on the toilet leaking and not flushing good. I was talking to my neighbor out where I keep my horses and we were complaining about the cold. Here it is Mid-April and it is only 47 degrees. At one point last night it was 23 degrees and set a record. I don't think we are going to have spring :( We have also had a lot of rain and some snow and the other night it hailed. Some of it was the size of quarters. How is your weather? Was the pay at the new hospital comparable to the other hospital? How about other benefits?

Like I said to, I have a lot of paperwork. I like that part the least. I have learned a lot already I do admit. They were only going to give me four days of orientation, but ended up giving me eight. I was scared to death still. I still have nights I am scared I am forgetting something. To make matters worse this week, state has come in to do their checks on procedures and so on. I being on the overnight shift haven't had to deal with them yet, but I am afraid they will show up some night. It makes me really nervous. We ran around last night doing some extra cleaning and made sure all the filing was done and so on. I was so tired this am. I picked up an extra shift and have to work tomorrow night on overtime. The money will be nice, but it cut my weekend off really short. :( Take care, Marti

So how do you like the new job? I like mine, although I have had some nights that were so hectic that I could have cried. I usually have between 42 to 44 patients and all of them want something!! Then there is the charting and paperwork :( I am lucky to get a lunch break. The time goes really fast and I do like nearly all of them. I have a few who can be very demanding and downright rude. I hope all is well with you. Marti

You got a new job to!! That is great!! How do you like it so far? I am still training to, I am glad because they were only going to train me for four days, which was no where near enough!! I learned more in two nights there at the nursing home than I did in clinicals. I need to work more on time management. I am sure once I get more familiar with the paperwork, patients and all the time management will work itself out. Vicky, my trainer, has stepped in several times and gave me a hand. Thank God for her!! Did you have a nice weekend? I worked the whole weekend, but got to spend some time with the girls. I hope all is well with you. Marti

I passed my test. I took it on March 11. On March 18 I applied at a nursing home four miles from my house and they called the next day and had me come in for an interview on Thursday. This last Monday they called and offered me a position. I had a couple hours of orientation on Tues and Wed. and I start work on Friday from 10:30 pm to 6:30 am. I am really scared!!!

Hello Girl!! I hope everything is going well for you. So you had a nice holiday? I got a job right before Christmas assembling electronic irrigation panels. It is boring and cuts up my fingers, but pays the bills. I went today and took my PN state test. So please say your prayers that I passed it!!
