Ten Reasons to Date a Nurse
NursingLink Editor
February 09, 2009
Users on Facebook, the ultra successful social networking site, virtually given birth to a new user-generated genre: the “Ten Reasons Why You Should Date an XYZ (name of your profession goes here) List.”
Lists have been published on the site for Why You Should Date a Single Mom, a Geek, a Wrestler and hundreds of other categories. Not to be outdone, the medical professions have also posted “Ten Reasons Why You Should Date: a Physician, a Physical Therapist, an EMT, and other medical professions.
Nurses, of course, have their ten reasons. Here is one Top Ten Reasons You Should Date a Nurse List, courtesy of a group on Facebook:
1. They can help you get over a hangover or sickness.
2. Bedbaths!
3. The uniform.
4. They are exposed to so many xrays, it’s like a form of birth control.
5. You will never need to buy condoms, paracetamol, toothbrushes or any hospital supplies.
6. They know how to handle bodily fluids!
7. Nothing shocks a nurse, they have always seen smaller or indeed bigger!
8. They won’t be disgusted by your toilet habits.
9. They are experienced in manual evacuation when you are full of you know what.
10. They know how to handle the human body.
Have another Top Ten Reasons list to share with us? Post it in our discussions on Nursinglink.com.

I found this pretty offensive. I'm sure there are a lot of people that are offended by it's implications. The topic was top reasons to DATE a nurse, not top reasons to have a sorry encounter..And i agree, this is a professional site, arent there any boundaries and respect anymore? Humor doesnt have to be sexually inappropriate. There are other ways to be funny..
what this is doing is equating romance with sex.

Wow!!! I am not a nurse - yet, so that's probably why I CAN actually see that the list is just meant to be a joke (and only that). Nurses seem really stressed - to the point where nothing is funny. Lighten up guys. It's kinda good though that you have used this medium to vent, as I am sure you don't vent to your patients. Of course not.
Remember, you have the opportunity to come up with your own list (if you are not happy with the posted one). Let's go....:0)
Sorry for offending the offended, but I simply can't afford to sweat the small stuff anymore. Life is way too short.
Peace guys.

This may be meant as a joke but I agree with those who say it is demeaning. While a couple of the reasons may be funny, most of them are not. I would expect this on facebook but not on a professional nursing site.

By the way -I also thought this was cute and funny. I can't see what's so wrong with it based off some of the vibe on the comments, but different strokes for different folks. I am just still struggling with the uniform part.lol I consider myself a vixen out of uniform, but in it I feel like an Inga. ( no offense to anyone if your name is Inga)

I hate to say it but think about how many people actually say "I wish I could take you home with me."
I'm pretty sure this is not just because of my sparkling personality. It's not exactly a date though, is it.

I use to work for the US Postal service & there were those postal workers who literally took postal jokes as a personal attack. (Going postal, etc). My ex in laws were all nurses & I rarely if ever heard anything humorous from them. I love humor & it will serve me well when I am done with nursing school. Got to have humor in ones life to keep sane. Hey, what you do you call a male Jamacian OB nurse? A pok e man. lol
