The American Nurses Association (ANA) announces its endorsement of Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) in the 2008 Presidential Election. The ANA represents the interests of the nation’s 2.9 million registered nurses.
“As President, Barack Obama will bring real change to our health care system,” said ANA President Rebecca M. Patton, MSN, RN, CNOR. “Nurses are consistently voted the most trusted profession by the American people, and we, as a profession, trust that Barack Obama will see that affordable quality health care is made available to everyone.”
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the American Nurses Association,” said Sen. Barack Obama. “The nurses of America serve our country tirelessly, and I share their belief that we must bring affordable and accessible health care to all Americans. My plan lowers health care costs for the average American family by up to $2500 and finally makes health care work better for American families than it does for the drug and insurance companies.”
“Both Senator Obama and Senator Clinton spoke at ANA’s House of Delegates in June about the need to move forward in unity to bring about real, much needed change to our health care system, and our nurses responded: ‘Yes we can’” Patton added. “Nurses represent the largest group of health care professionals in this country, and working together, we can use our power in the voting booth to make health care a priority, and make Barack Obama the next President of the United States.”
Senator Obama is committed to signing universal health legislation by the end of his first term in office that ensures all Americans have high-quality, affordable health care coverage. Barack Obama recognizes that nurses play a critical role in every aspect of patient care, and the nursing shortage ranks as one of the most pressing issues facing our health care system. Obama’s health care plan includes expanded funding to improve the primary care and public health practitioner workforce; including loan repayments, improved reimbursement and training grants.
Barack Obama has a history of advocacy for nurses and patients. In the Illinois senate, he helped lead efforts to protect nurses and improve the quality of health care. In the U.S. Senate, he cosponsored the Safe Nursing and Patient Care Act, which limits mandatory overtime for nurses to true emergency situations, and as President, he has promised to sign this important legislation into law.
ANA has been making presidential endorsements since 1984. The endorsement process includes sending a questionnaire on nursing and health care issues to all of the Democratic and Republican candidates, an invitation to all of the democratic and republican candidates for a personal interview and an online survey of ANA’s membership regarding which candidate is most supportive of nursing’s agenda.
The ANA is the only full-service professional organization representing the interests of the nation’s 2.9 million registered nurses through its 54 constituent member nurses associations. The ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the rights of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public.

Why is it that people don't understand, We just elected our first Arab-American President. All of the news media says Barack Obama is an African American. He is not! Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side. While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya, his father's family was mainly Arabs. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certicate even states he's Arab, not African Negro) From...and for more....go to...
http://www.arcadeathome.com/newsboy.phtml?Barack Hussein Obama - Arab -American. only 6.25%25 African
On Feb. 28, 2008 Kristoff from the New York Times a year ago: Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as 'one of the prettiest sounds on earth at sunset' enhanced and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts.
Obama states his name is African Swahili---- Not Exactly----your name is Arabic and 'Baraka' (From which Barack came) means 'blessed' in that launguage. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.
He claims to have never practiced Islam - Not Exactly - he practiced it daily at school, where he was registered as a Muslim and he kept that faith for 31 years until his wife made him change, so he could run for office. From 4-3-08 Article 'Obama was 'quite religious in islam.'
These are just a few of many FACTS about Obama that most people either don't know or don't care to know due to the narrow mindedness of wanting CHANGE.....or a Quick FiX.....The Grass is always greener on The Other SIDE mantality. All I have to say to that is a Quick Fix is usually what it is.....Quick...putting a bandade on the problem to stop the bleeding......The Grass is Greener on the Other Side...Yeah, it always is and sometimes you even see purple flowers until you get to the other side and ....wow....those arn't flowers those are dog turds, just like the ones on the side from which I came. And....about the CHANGE....well, the only change that I can think of that I would like to have is the type of CHANGE that I can still jingle in my pocket because I still have a job with wages that pay enough to allow me a little change in my pocket to jingle!
Let's pray that we all have a good Holiday Season, anway!

I, for one, did and do not support Obama. I do not support him based on his very vocal disrespect of the unborn. I know, I know, he wants to LOWER the abortion rate. Good for him...he could be very succesful at that if he chose to view all unborn children as just that...children. That being said, he was elected. I have no control over what will happen now. I hope and pray with ALL of my might that he is able to keep the promises he has made to the American people. I also implore him to PLEASE change his stance on live and partial birth abortion, and more importantly FOCA. I have done EXTENSIVE research on all of these topics as I am writing a research paper currently on live birth abortion. Obama's name continues to come up whenever these topics are discussed. I will show respect where it is due, but I cannot support his choices when it comes to the silent voices of this country. I also will not bad mouth or show hatred toward him or anyone who does support him. We all have our reasons for doing what we do. Let's come together and say one big prayer that Obama has been sincere and will fight the good fight.

Ignorance.....NOT HARDLY!!!!! That was a good one though....teehee. Actually....the Obama Administration is quite welcome to hear from ALL Americans on their vision and ideas for our country's future. Yes, that's true....he's recruiting ideas from us....the average folks. You'll see....just give it time. ;-) Youth rock and we are the future! If anything.....Obama has gotten young people to become active in political issues and their communities.
So...carry on....pray for Obama to have a successful presidency...because as I said he is your president as well! ;-)

Sit back and keep your mouth shut? Democracy? Accept the way things are and keep opinions to yourself? I do believe in prayer, I also believe in freedom of speech which to me is not "bellyaching" if you believe in what you are saying to be of importance. With this type of mindset you are correct, IT IS OVER. Youth of this country will pay for the choices made out of ignorance.

I would invite any one of you to take a look at the forms on NL......these issues have been debated quite extensively. If you want to know the truth it's available.....you just need to be open and willing to accept it.
Obama is our new president. Get over it!!!!! Unless you plan on moving....he will be your president too. It will be in ones best interest to quit the bellyaching and start praying for Obama's success since his success as a president will translate into our success as a nation. Your complaints are an empty use of energy. Move on....he's been elected....because the majority believe in and wanted him to be. It's over

Have any of you every seen an aborted fetus?, assisted in a partial birth abortion?, not given any nursing care to a viable aborted fetus? Nothing is wrong with these actions, - Right? Obama would have supported your actions and so would the ANA. Hurrah for you. You have chosen your path with perfect political correctness. Only one problem with your actions, you will answer to an angry God one day - and I pray He has mercy on your miserable soul.

How much do you know about socialized medicine? How it affects health care professionals as well as patients? Start educating yourselves because Obama is for socialized medicine and with ANA supporting him as well as uninformed health professionals, it is going to happen. Why do you think Canadian nurses come to the U.S. to work? Because socialized medicine is so wonderful?

I think it is quite funny that Benya commented that there is a lot of racism in my state. Everyone I heard who was voting for Obama did so BECAUSE they consider him to be black. Isn't THAT racist??? Although, their rationale is flawed becuase he may consider himself black but he came from a white woman's womb.
