Destiny Leads Young Woman to Become Yoga Nurse

Destiny Leads Young Woman to Become Yoga Nurse

Jannette Pippin, The Daily News of Jacksonville

MOREHEAD CITY — An early career as a fashion model and actress, a bit of intervention from a hockey game and a midlife decision to become a nurse are all part of Annette Tersigni’s journey to Carteret County and her work with therapeutic yoga.

She sums it up as destiny.

“(As the yoga nurse) I can really care for people and increase their quality of life,” said Tersigni.

Tersigni, a former model, is on the cover of the inaugural issue of “Modern Nightingale” magazine.

“When I was a model-actor I was in selfish self-service,” Tersigni said. “Destiny took that other Annette … and helped turn me into someone who could give something, not just take.”

Tersigni, a dual American-Canadian citizen, had a successful career in modeling and acting in Canada before heading to California in the late 1970s.

She appeared in television commercials and films and was on the Tonight Show as one of the “Mighty Carson Art Players.”

“There came a time in my early thirties where I felt I was ready to make a transition and I really wanted to quit the business before it quit me,” Tersigni said.

Tersigni became fascinated by yoga at age 17 after finding a paperback book on the subject.

“Yoga was not just superficial. It was not just about the body, although it includes the body,” she said. “It rejuvenates the body, makes you younger, stronger, more vibrant. It also takes care of your emotions.”

She became a certified yoga instructor and has worked for more than 14 years as a stress management and wellness educator.

I would like to hear more about how she integrated nursing and yoga and what kind of facility she does this for. I am already a nurse and would be very happy integrating yoga into my therapeutic practice.

Great! As a burnt out nurse I too am seeking a new way to utilize my profession without going back to the hospital and its politics. Nursing is hardly about the patient anymore and I just can't give substandard care. I am hoping to find something that helps people to deal with the stress that is so pervasive in this society and a way to show them, especially nurses, that life can be beautiful if we just slow our pace. and take better care of our own needs. Blessings.
