Groping Wedgie Dentist Gets His Due

A dentist who gave a nurse a ‘wedgie’ and pranced around his surgery wearing a leopard-print thong has been struck off.

Dr Anthony Barton, 36, paraded around in front of the 19-year-old nurse in the thong and shouted: ‘Get a load of that!’

He was hauled before the General Dental Council after it emerged he had regularly groped nurses bottoms, twanged their underwear elastic and tried to undo their bras while at work.

He also embarked on a passionate affair with one nurse and they regularly had sex at the surgery.

Dr Barton was hauled before the council to answer more than a dozen charges of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ towards female members of staff.

And yesterday the twice-married dentist was struck off after he was found guilty of ‘unprofessional, inappropriate and indecent’ sexual conduct towards three women at the Red Rose Dental Group in Wigan between 2000 and 2008.

Anthony Kravitz, GDC chairman, said: ’As a partner in the practice, working directly with these dental nurses, you were in a position of authority over them which you abused.

‘This behaviour extended over a period of more than seven years between December 2000 and June 20008 and included inappropriate physical and intimate sexual touching, as well as sexual comments and questions.’

He said Barton had abused the trust of the young vulnerable women leaving them with lasting effects.

’Your behaviour was a serious breach of trust of several vulnerable employees. Furthermore your conduct clearly demonstrates a system of sexual behaviour towards young females over a period of years.

‘The only sanction which remains available to the committee is erasure, which for all the reasons stated, it considers to be appropriate and proportionate.’

Lydia Barnfather for the GDC said one nurse, Miss A, was just 19 she began her first job as a dental nurse in December 2000.

She said: ‘Dr Barton would pull at her knickers from over her clothing. He also used to try and undo her bra staps through her clothing, through the tunic a dental nurse wears, and even succeeded on one occasion in doing so.’

Miss Barnfather said sex was a ‘constant topic’ of conversation and Dr Barton would often ask her very intimate questions.
