    I also knew prn was as needed and that's why they have a list of acronyms you use and don't use.

    PRN has always stood for 'as needed'. Making up new abbreviations causes errors and is the reason for the Joint Commission's Do Not Use list.

    I wonder if these ARE approved medical acronyms?? i've been a nurse for 23 years and have always used PRN for "as needed"..... hmmmmm....
