Many nurses choose administration as their nursing career. These nurses might work in hospitals as well, dealing with the business side of nursing. They might also be in charge of scheduling the nurses who work on the floor, ordering supplies, maintaining budgets, and dealing with personnel issues. Other administrative nurses work for insurance companies or lawyers, reviewing files and cases. These “desk jobs” provide stable hours and usually do not require night or weekend work. Most nurses in administration have at least a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

I wish more nursing magazines would just throw the word “crisis” out the window and provide some quick, simple facts and projections about the job market today and tomorrow. Currently there is a job vacancy rate of more than 8 percent, and yet some nurses can’t find jobs on their own and need peo companies to find a suitable job. One reason may be that these nurses are new and inexperienced. Some nurses work part-time as floor nurses and part-time as clinical instructors. These nurses get paid to help educate the next generation of nurses while maintaining the job they’ve always loved.
