Honestly, where I attended school (Minneapolis, Minnesota) the tech/community college was one of the best nursing school around, and while working as a nurse afterwards, I often found some of the most poorly prepared nurses were the ones who attended the schools that cost a lot of money, as if they sort of got a free ride since they were paying so much....as opposed to the nurses who attended the community college where it was a very difficult program quite a few did not complete but those who did were very well prepared. This is refering to the RN programs (and truthfully, the LPN program at the community college had even better equipments and a full modern lab compared to the RN program)...I suppose it depends on the school AND what you put into it. But I'd hate to see all of these affordable colleges judged on the basis of a few poor ones. And we all have to pass the same exam for licensure, right?
This, to me, is no different than the Technical College I attended daily for two years. It was strictly about the "head count" and thus the "bottom line". We had sub par STUDENTS and instructors and the campus "heads" allowing them to pass though. Lots of "freebie points" just to pass them from semester to semester. NCLEX? 5 of us passed the first go round (out of 19). If you get sick in south Louisiana, I can tell you which nurses you DON'T want.
