A Las Vegas man says his Henderson physician turned him into a drug addict and caused him to overdose by prescribing him as many as 1,170 narcotic painkillers in a single month. The prescriptions by Dr. Kevin Buckwalter were so extreme, and the documen

Great article. This is happening to so many people. I know a lady that had this happen to her. TERRIBLE... She commited suicide due to the fact that she was addicted to meds and she was so depressed. This "Dr" had resorted to exchanging sex for pills cause she couldnt afford them anylonger. Can you believe that he is still in pactice today?. (he is currently under investigation, in Arizona)

This doctor should not be able to work in medicine any more. The are way to many people out there who say their doctors have got them on so much medication it would snow a bull. I have seen so much of this when I worked in the County Jail System. So may of those inmates I do know lie but there are some that you know are just addicts and truley need help. Wow.

It's a shame that doctors do get to this point. Looking for that almighty dollar I suppose, and not truly caring about his patients. Unfortunate. Don't tell me this doctor didn't know what all he was prescribing for this one patient...The point is to help allieviate symptoms, refer to specialists if applicable and not make the patient an addict!!! The patient should have asked why so many..I know I would have. I am sure the Dr. didn't say, ok, have to watch these, as they are addictive. I've had my doctor say that to me.

I couldn't believe what I was reading! Who is to blame? I say both. An "executive" must have had a couple of brain cells left to know taking that many pills a day can't possibly be right. But he sure did keep on going back! This doctor makes the system that much worse for the poor patients truly in chronic pain who are unable to find a doctor to treat it effectively. I just don't even know what to say about either one of these people. I can say bottom line it pissed me off beyond thought! As previosly commented; "a junkie and a pusher" simple as that. No one to take ACCOUNTABILITY for their own actions.

Patients do need to take responsibility for their care and for their addictions. However, in this case the largest blame lies with this provider. Patients should not have to Google any thing on their own or read any insert. it is the responsibility of the prescribing provider to furnish the patients with information on any and all meds that they are giving to the patient.

Very irresponsible by both parties. Does the patient not read the information sheet inclosed in all Rx's these days. Yes, these drugs are additive, he keeps going back for more, and the Dr. keeps giving them to him. What ever happen to "Do no harm". I agree, what about the Ins company or the pharmacy didn't they pick up on any of the excessive over use.

This is scary. It is criminal and borders on insanity on the doctor's part. The patient was not his own advocate in this situation either. I can not imagine the insurance company covering these prescriptions.

I cant believe a doctor would do this. It seems crazy. What about the pharmicists filing out all this perscriptions? I suppose if you would go to 1,000 different pharmacy's they wouldnt catch on?

Ok, I have to place blame on both sides. As a patient, where do you draw the line on how many pills you will take w/o asking the Dr. why am I taking this many. As a Dr. , why would you over prescribe these meds. Everyone knows that narcotics are addicting. A Dr.no less. He has the responsibility to do right by the patient. Treat the patient, don't let the patient treat himself. You are the one that went to med school. Be responsible.

Wow. That's terrible to see how someone slipped through the cracks. He should have been referred to a pain specialist or a chemical dependence program. Either way, his issue with the pills was not addressed correctly and it sounds like the doctor just dropped the ball. Maybe he should have his narcotic Rx license taken in case he hasn't learned, that way no one else can OD.
