Ex-Director of NYC Hospital Admits Bribe Receiving

NEW YORK – A former executive director of New York City’s Bellevue Hospital Center has pleaded guilty to receiving bribes from a company owner who wanted a service contract with the facility.
Carlos Perez pleaded guilty Tuesday in exchange for a sentence of five years probation and a $25,000 forfeiture payment. He could have gotten seven years in prison if he had been convicted after trial.
Perez, who’s 56, ran Bellevue from 1997 to 2005. Prosecutors say he accepted $2,500 and a job for his girlfriend to help a company that files medical records get a Bellevue contract in 2000.
Perez’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, said the crime “was an isolated instance of poor judgment” after “30 years of unblemished service.”
Sentencing will be Jan. 14.
