Family Considers Suing Hospital in Teen's Aspirin Overdose Death

GREENWICH, Conn. – A medical examiner in New York has ruled that a 14-year-old Greenwich girl who died in June committed suicide by overdosing on aspirin.
A lawyer for Daisy Pacheco’s family says the ruling was not unexpected.
But attorney Lindy Urso says the family still has concerns about how the teen was cared for, saying she sat untreated at Greenwich Hospital for several hours on June 25 before being transferred to Westchester Medical Center, where she died the next morning.
Urso says relatives believed she may have taken too many aspirin.
Urso says the family is considering a lawsuit against Greenwich Hospital.
A spokesman for Greenwich Hospital says it’s inappropriate for hospital officials to comment on the care of a patient.

The poison control hotline should have been called first but the triage nurse should have been alert to the possible OD and suicide attempt. As being an ER nurse for years I would have taken her to a room and had lab tests run and urine samples for levels of drugs. I have found at least once where a woman in her 50's had actually OD'd on asprin and family didn't know she took them for pain. Yes we were able to save her because of simple blood tests.

I don't believe that the hospital can be so neglecting to treat a patient for a over dosing. First, the family should of call the poison control hotline, and see what they could do, before taking the child to the hospital.
