DUNEDIN, Fla. – Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies say a patient in a hospital’s critical care unit pulled out a gun and pointed it at a nurse.
According to a press release, 74-year-old Paul Schein was charged with attempted murder. Schein won’t be booked into the county jail until he is medically cleared at Mease-Dunedin Hospital.
Deputies say a second nurse was able to disarm the man when he aimed it at the first nurse. Schein was detained by hospital security until deputies arrived Monday afternoon.

WOW......SCARY! Thank God for the second being able to disarm the patient. Scary stuff these. Most people don't realize how dangerous nursing can be.

Safety is a major concern for most nurses at the hospital I work at. They just opened visiting hours-24/7days a week. Now instead of family members going home @8pm. The ones that don't have enough sense to leave ,get to STAY overnight!YAY! We get the verbal threats and physical assults but none at the point of a gun. This is a moment where a nurse may have to make a judgement( his way or my way) I think it'll be his way if he's got a gun! Praise the second nurse who had his coworker's back, by disarming the patient. I guess metal detectors are in our future as part of the admission to a hospital.
