JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 7 – A Florida woman who claims part of a knife was left inside her head after she was stabbed three years ago said she plans to sue the hospital that treated her.
Chad Roberts, an attorney for Edith McQueen of Jacksonville, said his client went to the Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center in August 2005 after she was stabbed twice in the head during a random act of violence, WJXT-TV, Jacksonville, Fla., reported Wednesday.
“Somehow, someway, the knife was left in her head. She presented to the emergency room for treatment from the stab wounds to the head, and they were simply stitched up and Mrs. McQueen was sent home,” Roberts said.
He said the knife fragment can be seen via X-ray lodged next to McQueen’s jawbone.
“A simple X-ray is comparatively easy, inexpensive and accessible, and you would think that a stab wound would probably justify a $25 or $50 X-ray to make sure no foreign body, either dirt or gravel or some foreign object, remained in the wound site, but apparently that didn’t happen,” Roberts said.

The Doctors must have missed it or they should have told the patient that they needed to leave it. That's inexcusable in my opinion. The patient paid top dollar to receive one cheek care. Basiajune, what are you talking about? A fight, revenge, please don't read into the story and skew it to the negative. The doctors made a mistake; it does not matter why the patient came in for care. What the doctors did was worse than say running a red light; it could have caused injury, or death. If a doctor was caught running a red light than that doctor would pay a fine. Why shouldn't these doctors pay a fine for their mistake.

well if she wasnt having any neurologic deficits, then dont need to take knife out. i work in neuro icu and there are times when drs leave bullets in head because removing it would be too risky. so maybe they thought same thing. obviously shes ok since shes trying to sue

i live in jacksonvillem, Florida and this is the 3rd time in the past 4 months that i have heard of this. my mom had surgury and they left a sponge inside of her. this caused a heart attack. AFTER EVERY SURGURY THEY HAVE A CHECK LIST TO SEE IF THEY ENDED UP WITH ALL THE EQUIPMENT THEY STARTED OUT WITH. IT IS THE DOCTORS WHO ARE GETTING LAZY. we pay them millions to do half ass work. not cool

I think in America there are alot of people who try to sue other people. I knew someone that knew someone that fell on purpose at a store, I think it was a Walmart, and sued them for it. The person had Medicaid so everything was paid by the government from our tax money but then she also sued the store and got money for what she purposely did and then claimed disability even though she was not working before. Why was this erson stabbed in the head. The people that I know and heard stories of people getting stabbed actually it was there fault in the first place and they were either in a fight or someone came back for revenge of what that person did. I think this person should be able to get the rest of the knife removed and stitched up and the hospital care done for free, but I don't think they have the right to sue. The hospital did not stab her!!!

Maybe it was causing her problems, that's why she ended up getting the follow up x- ray. I know I'd be having problems if I had a knife fragment lodged in my jaw bone.

UHMMM don't you guys think your being a little unfair to this person that had part of a knife left in her head when she trusted the physician and nurses to treat her.

if it hasn't caused a problem, get it out for free, follow up for free, but don't go paying her millions if she's not harmed.
