Nurse Admits to Injecting Mother with Morphine
AP
March 11, 2009
SAN RAFAEL, Calif.—A Marin County nurse will probably avoid a prison sentence after admitting she injected her elderly mother with a massive dose of morphine.
Susan Dixon agreed to plead guilty to felony elder abuse Tuesday after being told by the judge her guilty plea would keep her out of state prison.
If convicted, the 52-year-old Dixon could have been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Dixon was charged after allegedly injecting her 80-year-old mother with a massive dose of liquid morphine solution in May of 2007.
Her mother survived after authorities were called and she was taken to a hospital.
Despite the objections of the prosecutor in the case, Dixon is expected to be placed on probation when she’s sentenced in May.

I need to know more about the case to give an honest opinion , but as a nurse I am very careful when giving drugs to other patients , I love old people so i'm extra careful when dealing with them.

There isn't much to go on at this point. However her daughter definitly shoud be evaluated and directed by the judge to do some time for the crime. NO ONE should take that into their own hands first of all .Right there is reason enough to persecute her and see to it that she needs some serious counseling

I wonder why she did this?? the story is vague, was her mother terminally ill?? in alot of pain?? did she knowingly inject her in order to kill her?? so many questions..... I do not think it fair to say to her if you admitt you wont go to jail!!! if she knowingly attempted to "kill" her mother than yes she needs help and jail time....... if it was out of seeing her mother in pain, maybe her mom had been on morphene a long time and had some tolerance daughter thinking to help not kill should be reprimanded for giving the wrong dose but not jail..............I could go on and on and on..............

Sounds like a case of mercy-killing to me. I think she should do jail time, afterall she DID admit to committing a felony. The article makes no mention of her license to practice. I hope it's revoked for life!

Why should she just be "slapped on the hand"?????????? She attempted to fatally harm her mother.
