Our tax money is already paying for everyone healthcare. How many people, citizens and illegals, get hospital care and don't pay a dime?. This plan is trying to cover just that so the hospitals will not run at a loss and, may be, will be able to have better staffing too. Hopefully, it will work like that. As for the illegals getting healthcare....how are you going to stop it?. As long there are illegals they will benefit from healthcare and schooling services either we like it or not.
I don't mind the US residents because they work and pay taxes, but you know that already, don't you?.
As for the "public servants", the one we elect, will have better insurance because, as we all know, the government benefits are the best. Nobody will be stopped from purchasing better and more expensive insurance, if they can afford it....and we all know that the plan will not be for Medicaid and Medicare elligible people. As I said earlier, we all knew a lot about this since during the electoral campaigns. Obama and Clinton spoke at lenght about the plan and was one of the issues that helped the democrats win the elections, right?.

smschafle,
It is a bit late for anybody to do much. We all knew about "universal healthcare" before Obama was elected. The ones that voted for him, and agreeing with this reform, out numbered the ones that voted against. Something should have been said and done before those elections, don't you think?. The nursing groups that you are talking that are doing nothing now, they did nothing then too. You don't need to tell me about the "red flag" because I lived in that system, I was just trying to encourage you all and so you will not get completely depressed before anything started. If I would have liked the life I had before, I wouldn't be here, would I?.

Ask yourself these questions: If socialized healthcare is so good, why won't our leaders be a part of it? No, they will have private insurance healthcare. Okay for us but not for them. Excuse me, but...they are public servants. Do servants have better then the ones they serve? Also, are you sure you want your hard earned tax dollars paying for all US residents? Residents, not citizens! And are you aware that not all will have healthcare? Yes, there will be a rather high percentage of citizens who will not have healthcare despite "healthcare for everyone" jargon. Lots to be considered. I am wondering why nursing groups are not up in arms about this socialized medicine that will not deliver great care to the patients/clients and will help quicken the bankrupting of our Nation? Why is Washington D.C. rushing this bill through? What are they afraid we will find if given sufficient amount of time to read it and consider it? This reform may have something good, but we are not given a reasonable time to consider it...RED FLAG here!

There are pros and cons to the so called "socialistic medicine". I have lived and practiced nursing for 25 years in a country with this type of medicine and it wasn't all bad. People, surprisingly, survived and lived long, everybody had access to the healthcare, poor, medium class or the rich, doctors did a real consultation( they had to touch you to know what is wrong) and spent more than 2 minutes with you, you find more medication over-the-counter because there was no more interest to see you going to the doctor for just about anything......and belive me that you found just about any medication that you desired ......but there weren't all the laws, lawyers and the lawsuits from here either nor the drug users either. The more you deny, and make it agaist the law, a medication or drug, the more tempted people become to have it and use it.
The pharmacists could advice you on a an antibiotic or a certain ointment, and they were as good as the physicians. How many nurses here are very knowledgeable and be able to give you the right advice or pinpoint the right diagnosis?.....many.... if it wouldn't be for the high liability.
We will have to wait and see if universal healthcare will work here or not.
