The trademark political tactic of the Obama administration is speed: ramming legislation through Congress as fast as possible — too fast for anyone to subject the bills to scrutiny, search for objectionable provisions or develop effective arguments in a public debate. They push the bills through so fast, even President Obama and his allies in Congress don't have time to read them and don't know what's in them. That's why we should be relieved that Obama's medical insurance bill did not get pushed through before the August congressional recess. The bill got blocked, in part, because the people had just enough time to start reading it. And the more we read, the less we're going to like.

The "conservatives" had fair warning that the "liberals" would seek health care reform. One poster mentioned Hillary and her "sham" at health care reform. That alone should have given eyesight to the blind on that topic.
Yet what did they do in the 8 years GWB and Dirty Dick were in office? Start a needless war in Iraq and detract from the true needed war in Afghanistan. We have lost hundreds of billions of dollars and over 4,000 Americans in Iraq for what? To open up a free market there for truck bombs. To let Dirty Dick and Halliburton and KBR rake in the big bucks while electrocuting our soldiers in showers.
Page 22 - Having been screwed by a self-insured private medical clinic I worked for in the state of Washington I would urge the government to audit the books of any such business whether we have health reform or not.
Page 29, Lines 29-16 "rations care" - LEARN TO READ! It is a limitation on costs to subscribers! Good God, the insurance companies jacking rates at will is something you like and want? I am guessing not!
Page 30, Section 123 - heck yes they are going to decide what items to cover and what levels of care to establish. Again this is stuff all insurance companies already do.
This poster's lame comments are so off base I won't even look at the bill to address the rest.
A ton of you people cannot even spell correctly or use proper grammar or proper syntax. I suggest you get a grownup to read what you intend to oppose and have them explain it to you.
Or maybe Bill O'Reilly could find someone to do it for you.

Two things I want to say about the comments to this article. First of all the liberals complain that the conservatives get their information from right leaning media and yet the liberals get theirs from the left leaning media. Please, read the Healthcare Reform bill and make your own choice. Secondly people keep calling it a "free healthcare" Come on now, nothing in this world is free. Someone will pay for it. Will it be the millions of people who do not work? Oh no, it will be all the workers from the rich to the working poor. NOTHING IS FREE!!!!!!

The current Healthcare reform bill is truely more frighening than the sham of a reform proposal Hillary Clinton came up with during Clinton's first term. This goes a lot further than reforming healthcare, the changes encompasses our employer's benifits packages, a physician's right to set fees (yes, I realize that many specialists need to be reigned in), attorneys, politicians and accounts are in charge of doling out healthcare to our families, our friends, our patients and ourselves? What kind of madness is this??? Yes, we need healthcare reform, yes, cost has to be controlled, and, yes, the insurance companies are already dictating the need for and the denial of payment on what they deem, unnecessary. Like it our not, the cost of providing for healthcare, housing and food stamps for illegal aliens is astronomical and growing. California and other border states are struggling with this burden. Our ecomomy, at this point in time, does not permit us to be generous to a fault. Legal entry into this country is available to all. All should be working tax payers, just like we are. We all have to read this reform bill, wade through the legal jargon, demand that our elected officials clearly and corrected translate this confusing mess into understandable English. Then it is up to us to tell our elected officials what we want. They are being paid to represent US, we have the final word. We can bicker among ourselves forever and these fools will pass this bill while we bicker. Where do our nursing associations stand on this bill? Again, look at what the gov't has done to the Vet's hosp. and clinics, I promise you will be writing, e-mailing, calling and shouting at your elected officials to reform this bill that borders on fascism.

Is this what we really want for heath care reform? This is just a way for the federal government to gain as much control over the people as possible. Health care should be afforded to every legal citizen, but this bill is not the solution! I don't remember where this was posted, but I checked it against the bill, and these excerpts are accurate. This also only covers pages 1-500. There's still another 500+ pages not listed here. No wonder Obama tried to push this through before the recess! The more people find out about this bill, the faster it will die! Don't forget, the federal government works for the States, not the other way around.

Re: WBatley214 articles submitted. I see that you have submitted 123 articles to this site of very questionable "facts" about healthcare reform. Are you really a nurse, or are you a plant to make nurses at this site think that there are actually nurses that think this. Your ignorance is REALLY showing, of the needs of all people, and the actual bills that are in congress at this time. What really gives you away, is your Fear Tactic characteristic that you and your group of paranoid, Rush Limbaugh followers depend on to scare the elderly and others that are easily persuaded (due to lack of understanding of the healthcare system). Shame on you and Shame on this site for giving you access without verifying your authenticity.

I have to say that we NEED a healthcare reform. I have been insured for years and during nursing school ended up with one of the typical, cheap student insurances. I've always been pretty healthy and took precautions by extending my coverage it until i was to begin working. Unfortunately, a couple months after graduation I was diagnosed with a stage 4 cancer. All I had was a $20,000 maximum on my insurance. The fact that I had was a stage 4 cancer allowed me to qualify for disability meaning I qualified for medicaid. If I had a stage 3 cancer (or stage 1 or 2), I would have had no way to pay for all my chemo and routine tests. Before my medicaid had been approved, I had already accumulated over $100,000 in medical bills. I cannot imagine having to go through all of this without the help I receive. So far I've had 9 months of treatment and will need a bone marrow transplant.
Also, concerning the comments below, I cannot believe that people are complaining about having to take care of illegal immigrants. Remember that unless you are a Native American, we're all immigrants. It doesn't matter how far your family goes back. Furthermore, I've known many illegals who come to this country who are very good people, pay their taxes, go to church, donate to charity, etc. They work very hard to ensure that their children can become educated individuals. My mother was one of them and is now a U.S. citizen. Those who are nurses should especially know better than to generalize people in such a way! There are many U.S. citizens who are murderers/ criminals, don't pay their taxes, and don't care about helping others.
I do believe that we need to use other countries as examples to develop a healthcare reform that works for the U.S. I also agree that they need to cut out the legal jargon, at least for the average Amercian to understand exactly what the reform is offering.

Here, here!!! I applaud you mystcnurse!!!!! Why is it that the American public cannot see that yet another 1000 page government issued bill is not the answer for Healthcare reform. And I too am tired of providing healthcare for illegals. And housing and food and any other need and/or want.
I digress, allow the professionals in the Healthcare system to guide Healthcare reform. Sure, there are those that want to make millions every year but for the most part, the backbone of the Healthcare system, ie: primary care MD's, nurses, techs, etc. are not getting rich. We want to do a good job at a job we love. Healthy Europeans, Canadians, Brits may criticise or healthcare system but when they are really sick and need top quality healthcare, where do they go to get it? Not across town, but across the border, across the pond. If you want to see how government can mess up Healthcare, tour a half dozen Vet. Hosp. and talk to the Vets. Go to a few Vet. Clinics, talk to the Vets. More gov't=more bureaucracy=healthcare at it's worst.

Wow, I'm impressed by the comments below. Is this critical thinking at its finest? No wonder we are in so much trouble in this country. "I'm going to boycott your site"??? Why not give information related to the actual bill that shows its merit? Educate others, maybe? Is it possibly because you haven't read the 1000 page bill? Maybe because it is written in legalease that is almost impossible to comprehend and you have as little idea what is in it as those who are "on the other side"? I've even seen lawyers debate about the true intentions of this bill. And BM3. How many more preganancies do I have to pay for? All this wonderful, shining, American style prenatal care on my dime, for people who have cell phones, and nice cars and wide screen TVs and get their nails done every week? How many more type II diabetics who eat doughnuts and junk food and sit sedintarily in front of the television watching American Idol, while I work two jobs, just so about 1/3 of my time in dollars can be taken from me to support this behavior? And how many more illegal aliens who bring crime into this country, must I provide healthcare for? My brother, who lives in Houston actually photographed a bunch of illegals walking out of a corner store with six packs of beer they had not paid for, while the clerk looked helplessly on... just walking... not running. And Nursereilly, "Sicko" although entertaining, is not entirely accurate. Talk to people who actually live in some of the countries that Moore portrays in his "documentary" and you will find that the information they give you is just a little bit different than what was shown. And as far as "Right wingers" or "liberals" - other than the Americans who are being "divided and conquered" by the main stream media, there is really no such thing. They are all the same. And if you believe that "single payer insurance", OR "free and universal healthcare" can become a painless reality, you are living in a dreamworld. Not all providers thinking this is such a good idea. And I must implore. What ELSE has the government done well? There is so much to this issue, that there is no possible way that it can be summed up in one aritlce, or one comment, or ever ONE 1000 page bill. These kinds of huge decisions should not be made emotionally, and should not be made quickly. I must agree with WBatley214. And I am not a "right winger". Just a critical thinker.

We as Americans are all just too stupid .....and that's a fact. Everyone should have to watch "Sicko" the documentary on healthcare.....
I think we are one of the only , if not THE only country that people have to pay for insurance for healthcare or go without and hope to not get sick or worse.
One man in that documentary said something very good......In America everyone is afraid of the government, but in other countries the government is afraid of the citizens which is the reason they get what they need with healthcare........seriously, it's pretty pathetic to think our country treats people in this manner. People from England, and France actually laughed when they were asked how much they pay for healthcare, and were very shocked that we have a system like we do........
But we did it to ourselves........people piss, moan and complain but they forget they are their own worst enemy sadly enough. We live in a "ME" society which is pretty pathetic.
In France people get 5 weeks vacation immediately, even part time workers and their work week is 35 hours not 40, 50, 60 even 80 hours like here in the US.
No wonder why Europeans are so healthy and live longer compared to Americans........it's the truth.....

Kudo's BM3! I am so confused about who Nursing link represents here. Showcasing this comment as a lead story? If you havn't noticed nurses and MD's support a single-payer or public-plan option because we have a heart. Maybe WBatley214 needs to spend a few days at my county hospital. If we would spend health care dollars up front for the uninsured we would in the long run be spending less money of our taxpayer dollars caring for these people. Prevention works! We have one of the worst health care systems of any industrialized nation. We Americans should be embarrassed. Nursing Link- who pays for your site- health care insurance companies? If this continues I will boycott your site and make sure my fellow nursing friends know your true intentions

I am SICK of hearing the question "why do we need to pay for the uninsured"?
WHY WOULD YOU EVEN ASK THAT QUESTION AS A HUMAN BEING??
Rather than moaning, what's YOUR solution? PEOPLE ARE DYING!!! people WITH health insurance are getting it refused all the time or canceled for using it!! All Republicans do is moan about themselves and try to hijack anything Obama does, good or not.
The USA has a class A health system for those who have and a 3rd world system for those who have not.
It's about protecting AMERICANS not about taking money from individual Republicans. It's about not just thinking about your own life but imagining the horror of getting sick if you can't afford insurance and being left to DIE from a curable disease!
It's not just the health system that's sick - it's all those people who truly believe that the poor can get sick and die with no sense of SHAME!! I hope none of you DARE to call yourselves Christian!
