The healthcare reform bill pending in Congress is called “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act.” It is supposed to provide “affordable, quality health care for all Americans and reduce the growth in health care spending.” Unfortunately, rather than reducing the growth of healthcare spending, it is likely to increase it. And if the plan leads to a government takeover of the healthcare system, the only way it could keep spending under control is by restricting access to healthcare,...  Americans spend 15 percent of GDP on healthcare, which is almost twice as much as what people in most other nations spend. .... Because most Americans pay little or nothing for each visit to a doctor or hospital, they consume more healthcare than they would if they had to pay the full price for each visit. The resulting higher demand with a limited supply makes healthcare more expensive

Healthcare reform has been the hottest issue in the country. It has so many critics that the government can’t afford to pass the bill. Betsy McCaughey has gone on a real tear. Betsy McCaughey, a journalist of distinction and former Lieutenant Governor of New York state, has taken aim at Obamacare and especially Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, MD, brother to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, and in her op-ed piece that's being billed as New York Post Deadly Doctors, she claims that the public health care plan will deny care to the mentally disabled and elderly. However, nothing in the bill has come to light that would indicate she's correct, and the oversight agency for the program would be only be staffed by physicians. Regardless of criticism by Betsy McCaughey and others, most still need payday loans for the most basic of care.

I Volunteer at a Free Health Care Clinic, and we strive to give the pt who come in for treatment great service. They recieve no less service than I do when I got to see my PPO. I think they get better service, they recieve free to low cost service, free to $4 meds, free referels to Specialists who provide there services free to them also. What more could you ask for?

Apparently very few people are researching the facts. If you live in a state with a Mexico border or a state with high unemployment or even a state/city where you are underinsured by your employer, then you look at the reform in a different way. Something has to be done and something will be done in this presidency, whether you like it or not. No one has come with a better resolution and you have to remember that everything can be tweeked, like our taxes and Medicare on a yearly basis. Stop thinking about yourself only and look at the big picture. Everyone needs healthcare and in the US every American citizen or Visa working Americans should have the opportunity to have that benefit. We will eventually go broke without it or we can manage it above our means until a better plan is in place. Our hospital system in Texas presently care and spend about $8 million a month for unisured or underinsured. I already pay about $400.00 month for a family premium a month and still can not afford to go to the doctor because my premiums, copays and deductibles or to high. So people with insurance or without still don't go to the doctor like they should because the private insurance sector is capitalizing and choosing the rates for us but offers us less and less. For Heavens sake, stop complaining Americans and come up with a solution if you don't like what's on the table!

Here is a fact. The government manages the Veterans Hospitals and Clinics. What a mess they are in, remember the press on the "esteemed" Walter Reed Hospital? Healthcare is restricted in the Veteran's Hosp., just as a Vet. Quality of care is not the same as in the private sector, just ask a Vet. Do you really want MORE gov't regulation and piles of paperwork to receive healthcare? Not me, the people making all the decisions are lawyers and politicians, not Healthcare professionals. They have not attended one day of med school, nursing school, not even a nursing assistant class. I would prefer less government mandates and confusing regulations that make little to no sense, not more.

Unfortunately, this article is full of half truths and misinformation.

The reform plan is not a takeover. An emphasis on best practices and preventative care will decrease costs.

Private insurance companies already restrict access to care.

"it is likely to" . . . "And if" - got any facts to add to the discussion or are you just uncritically repeating what you've been told?
