The Senate approved sweeping health-overhaul legislation on Thursday, a landmark moment for White House-led efforts to expand insurance coverage to more than 30 million Americans. The bill, approved by a 60-39 vote, would deliver on a long-promised Democratic goal of extending coverage to nearly every American, and would represent the biggest expansion of the federal safety net since the 1965 creation of Medicare, the health-insurance program for the elderly and disabled.

The ANA would LIKE for everyone to believe that all nurses are supportive of the liberal agenda of this administration which includes the health care reform debacle. However, most of us who have been in the Real World for awhile know that no amount of goods, services or penalties will MAKE people take care of themselves. I dropped my ANA and state nursing association memberships when they came out in support of Obama and his empty promises during the 2008 elections. Voting with your money is sometimes more effective than voting with your ballot.

Thanks be to God that the Senate finally put an end to this mess until it (hopefully) can be properly debated and evaluated by BOTH houses of Congress? Could someone actually have the good sense to finally LISTEN to the American people who do NOT happen to be of the liberal persuasion and who pay for most of the social programs in this country? Perhaps Pelosi and her gang will decide to stay out in San Francisco with flowers in their hair and NOT insist on a GREAT BIG BOEING to bring them back to Washington this time? A nice long cross-country bicycle ride would do all of them good-clear the minds, be one with the environment and reduce their carbon footprints.
At least, this way we have time to continue our tea parties (appropriate hats for the ladies, if you please) and make it clear to Congress that not ALL nurses support this nationalization of the health care system. Meanwhile, those in Congress with sense enough to remember where their seats came from can 'muddy the water' long enough for us to get rid of this liberal lot in the next election.
