Posted almost 3 years ago I read this along time ago....It still touches my heart..
This poem was written by an old woman living in a nursing home in England. It was found among her things when she died. What do you see, nurses? What do you see?
Who dribbles her food and makes no reply
Who unresisting or not, lets you do as you will,
I'll tell you who I am, as I sit here so still,
A young girl of 16, with wings on her feet,
At 25 now, I have young of my own,
At 40, my young sons have grown and are gone,
Dark days are upon me, my husband is dead.
I'm an old women now and nature is cruel,
But inside this old carcass a young girl still dwells,
I think of the years all too few- gone too fast,

| Posted almost 3 years ago This was read to us in our geriatric class last semester.... It made me cry then, and still does. I sure hope people out there realize that how they treat people really makes a difference, even if it seems like the person is "no longer there" |
