I got a Monmouth County Vocational School magazine in the mail where they offer a program to becpme an LPN. It says grads are eligible to take the PN Licensure Examinaton for NJ. My question is are these types of programs considered to be "less quality education" versus going to 2 or 4 year school? Also, do employers "look down" on these types of programs? If anyone has any advice or has graduated from this type of program, please fill me in..thanks!!

It more or less depends on you area. Does the enviornment you want to work in hire LPN's that graduatee from this school? Do they pay less or equal to graduates of other institutions? My best advice is to call up a hospital or clinic or nurse care center and just ask. Thats what I did when I was looking for answers. I called up all the hopsitals in my city and asked to be transfered to "such and such department to speak with a nurse" and asked whoever answered " I'm trying to get into nursing. I'm wondering....blah blah..What school did you attend?...Do they appreciate degrees from this institution or this one, more, where you work? If I want to get into this area of nursing which do you think would be best for me?"..they help alot because they've been exactly where you are. They gave me wayyy more info than I could digest at once but they all said if I needed anything else just call and ask. On the other hand od is the prgram your interesting in is a good program or not...is it accrediated?!? Programs from all over claim you can sit for exams and all this but most of them are not board accrediated to teach or grant any type of nursing education. In these cases, money is wasted after graduation and many people find themselves starting over because the program was not legit. Again, don't be afraid to call and ask them. Don't give up and I hope you make the right decision!! Good luck!

Hi neighbor! i LIVE IN Keyport NJ. Yes I KNOW ABOUT THE MCVSD in Neptune LPN program. Employers do not look for what school you went to for LPN as long as you have a LPN License. When you become a RN thats different. LPN programs are vocational its a Vocational trade program. In my opinion LPN in college is a waste of time (2 years) and tution $.You can get it done (1 year-15months) in a trade school and it's the same licence. RN is different because its a degree program. A LPN CANNOT get a DEGREE in LPN is a Diploma Trade program. It's all the same whether the college or vocational school. IF YOU WNAT TO GO TO COLLEGE THEN GO FOR "RN" (2 year college program) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LPNs with a LPN license get into RN program quicker! I know i live in NJ been there done that!

MARENDA!!!!!!!!!! You seem hesitant about Vocational schools? and You are right College is better! But what LoveNursing2009 said is right LPN is a vocational trade. But "College is for RN". I think you should go straight for RN since college is more of a preference for you! Call Monmouth County Vocational school 732.774.2040 get information about the Pre-Nursing Course its $250 it gives you a run down of nursing (very informative). There Medical Assistant course is good too for $200 its a protion of what you would study in Nursing. But, go to Brookdale Community College Lincroft, NJ for RN or Middlesex County College Edison, NJ for RN then transfer to Monmouth University for a higher RN degree!!!!!!!! You cant go wrong with that!
