Posted almost 3 years ago I am entering into a ADN nursing program in the spring and then once I get my RN I am going to enter into a Master's program (because I have a bachelors in a different field and there is a program in Chicago that lets you go RN to masters w a bachelors in something). But I have been debating if I want to go into midwifery or neonatal nursing. I was wondering if people (in neonatal or midwifery) could share what they like about their speciality and also maybe a little more about being a midwife cause I only know a small percentage of it.
Thanks so much! |

| Posted almost 3 years ago My mum was a midwife and loved it. However, she was trained in the United Kingdom and back in the 60's so....I am sure her training was much different then the midwives of today. Midwives are autonomous practitioners who are specialists in low-risk pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. They generally strive to help women to have a healthy pregnancy and natural birth experience. Midwives are trained to recognize and deal with deviations from the norm. Midwives compliment often compliment OB Doctors, and midwives are trained to handle certain situations that may be described as normal variations or may be considered abnormal, including breech births, twin births and births where the baby is in a posterior position, using non-invasive techniques. Hope this helps. |
