Hey everyone. So I'm about to start my CNA class this September. I'm eventually going on to pursue my RN. I'm so overwhelmed by it already and I haven't even started. I'm scared because I'm horrible at math and science. Am I teachable? I'm 24 and currently a stay at home mom with 3 young kids(ages 2,4 and 6). Any advice, words of encouragement, anything? Thanks!

YOU CAN DO IT!

Age doesn't matter....and OMG, you are young like me. I just became a RN last year. It's a great feeling and you'll love it too. Study hard as much as you can. Never doubt yourself. It will  be tough with young kids at home I'm sure, but if nursing is your dream..............REACH IT!

Of course you can do it!  I raised 8 kids and quit a job of over 9 years to go to nursing school starting this fall.  Actually, less than 2 months!  Scared? Of course I am scared to death if I really think about it.  I realize that one mistake can be fatal and that sends shivers through me.  I take this very seriously.  It can be life and death anytime.    And NEVER underestimate being a mom.  That is the most important job you will EVER have.  The pay is lousy, it's often thankless, lots of crap, hey, it prepares you for NURSING!!!

Imagine what your kids can become because of you and your education.  Right now, I have a daughter that is an Army Captain, so is her husband.  They are both Physician Assistants and rotate back and forth on deployments every other year.  That scares me too.  But when I think of her accomplishments, I am amazed.  She has Jump Wings meaning she has jumped out of perfectly good airplanes with 80# of equipment strapped on her.  She has Air Assault Wings which means she can repel from a helicopter.  This is her 3rd degree with this Masters now.  The scary part is she will be doing medevac missions to pick up wounded and treat them to try to save our boys out there in the battle field.

I also have a son at the Naval Academy which takes some awesome grades, athletisism, a recommend from your congressman and a lot of other stuff.

This makes me proud to be a mom. So, don't sell yourself short and go for the gusto as they used to say in old beer commercials.  I am really dating myself now. LOL but you can do it.!!!!!

The math that we have learned (I am almost to the second year of my 2 year RN program) is not very hard. There are 2 formulas we use and they are easy to remember and you just plug in the numbers. The science part is a little challenging, but if you make time to study you will get it!

You are NOT old going into the nursing program at 24...most of my class wishes they were that old : ) ... I am one of the youngest at 22, most are in their 30s. And there are only about 5 people in my class that don't have kids. I have a friend in my class in your situation as well...she is a 24 year old stay at home mom with a 9 month old, 2 year old, 4 year old, and a 5 year old, and somehow she finds time and does great.
