My sister can't pass her RN boards.  She has tried twice and has given up.  She has been out of school for a year now and is currently working as a CNA.  Can anyone tell me if she can become an LPN or sit for the boards without going through school again.  I know I will hear alot about tell her not to give up, but she won't listen!!  I just need to know what she needs to do to become an LPN.  Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Tell her not to give up!  Same type of test for LPN as RN. Study the NCLEX study guides like crazy; it will happen; I realize it is frustrating! I am in CA and an LVN; most jobs are in nursing homes for us and while that's not a bad thing, your options being limited definitely is! I am starting RN program in the fall to increase my options and my salary!  My best positives thoughts are with her! She can do it! She got this far!!!

Yes she can sit for the LPN boards (at least in NC you can). I know of several LPN's that opted to go this route until they passed the RN boards.

I would also recommend a review course, also working through a book that I used before I took my NCLEX-RN in February, called Exam Cram, which I got at Barnes & Noble. You could tell her I know someone who took boards 3 times before she passed. Good luck to her, and glad she has you to encourage her!

The NCLEX can be tricky, and some people just freeze. My daughter just passed. This is what I purchased her:   NCLEX study cards, and not the book. These cards had the question on the front, with the answers to choose from. The back of the card has the best answer, and the rational for each one, either why or why not. That way, she could take some cards with her, everywhere she went, and didn't have to carry a big book...

I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SISTER IS GOING THROUGH,FRUSTATION. AT LEAST SHE  PASSED HER RN CLASS, I DIDN'T. BUT I HAD THE AWSOME OPPERTUNITY TO BECOME  SR. IN LPN CLASS AND PASSED. STUDIED FOR THE BOARDS AS IF I WAS A RN GRADUATE AND PASSED FIRST TRY. THE KEY IS STUDY EVERY SYSTEM ,NORMS AND ABNORMALITIES. WHEN TAKING BOARDS REMEMBER    A. B.C'S ( AIRWAY, BREATHING, CIRCULATION) ARE TOP PRIORITY ALWAYS!!!!!!!!! DON'T FOCUS ON PASSING, FOCUS ON SAVING SOMEONE LIFE THAT'S WHAT IMPORTANT!!!!!!! NOW I AM WORKING AS A LPN IN A MEDICAL OFFICE,AND PLAINING ON GOING BACK TO SCHOOL FOR MY BSN....SHE CAN DO IT!!!! ASK GOD TO HELP,,,,,HE HELPED ME.

My friend had the same situation, she failed the NCLEX twice. She did take her LPN boards and passed and then worked as an LPN on a med-surg floor and studied using an NCLEX cd rom on the computer, she just kept answering as many questions as she could which helped her understand the way the NCLEX questions are. She did pass the third time so tell your sister not to give up. Good luck!
