| Posted almost 3 years ago An ADN is an Associate's Degree in Nursing that upon completion allows you to sit for the RN state boards for licensure. It is generally a 2 year degree though some stretch it out due to personal needs. It was developed as an entry level to nursing followed by a BSN, then MSN and finally you have the option to complete a Doctorate in Nursing (DNP, DNs, DN, DNE depending on the program). As an ADN (I originally was an LPN) I felt a personal need to continue my education so I am in a bridge program - RN to MSN where BSN course work must be completed prior to pursuing the next steps. God willing, I will be finished with my MSN in June of next year and am already considering pursuing a doctorate. |

| Posted almost 3 years ago That's an excellent explanation of what an ADN is. Here is what I am looking at for myself. I am attending Palm Beach State College (our local community college) and in May I will complete my AA transfer degree along with all the prerequisite and co-requisite course for the nursing program here. At that time, God willing, I will then start the ADN program. Upon completion of the ADN I am planning to then get my RN of course and start working at a local hospital and begin work on either my BSN or MSN like Sue has describe that she's doing. So really to me the ADN is a way to get my RN and start working in the field while I finish off the rest of my schooling. |
