Posted almost 3 years ago I'm about to begin my college career. Very excited, but unsure about my major. I'm stuck between teaching and nursing. Teaching is something I've always wanted to do, but with the economy, more teachers are getting fired than hired. Nursing would be my next option. If I choose nursing, I would want to be a labor and delivery nurse or and ob/gyn nurse. The only thing holding me back is that science is one of my worst subjects and that's what freaks me out about pursuing nursing. Is nursing really hard? |

| Posted almost 3 years ago Chelsea, First let me say you are starting in the right place by coming here and asking questions. Now when it comes to teaching or nursing both a good professions and challenging ones. Each with their own challenges of sorts. Since your not quit sure which direction you want to go the first thing I would do is simply take prerequisite classes this fall that apply towards both degrees and then do some volunteer work at a school and at a hospital so that you get exposure to both environments. As far as nursing school goes yes it is a challenge. But really anything you go for is going to be a challenge. As a student working to get into nursing school right now myself I am of course having to take the basic english, math, history, humanities, and social science classes (General Psychology & Intro to Sociology) but also am having to take some heavy science classes as prerequisite and corequisite course for the nursing program. i.e. Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2, Microbiology, Chemistry, etc. But don't let that discourage you. If you apply yourself you can do it. Most schools have tutoring centers to help students as well as working with your classmates to study for your classes. Best of luck on your journey! |
