Hi,

I am interested in Nursing for my second career.  I currently work full-time and overtime, and have a husband and a child.  I looked at a couple of nursing programs in my area, and they have a lot of pre-requisites and then pre-requisites for the pre-requisites.  I have a long while before I would be retiring from  my current job (about 15 years), so I was thinking about getting started now and taking it slow, maybe some online courses.

I would love to get some advice from those in the know.

Thanks!

Schooling to become a nurse is not easy. The prerequisites you can certainly take over time on a part time basis but once your ready to enter a nursing program weather it's a part time program or a fulltime program it will require a lot of your time and dedication. In addition to that the school I am attending requires that all science prerequisites be completed within the last 10 years prior to entering the nursing program. If it's been longer than ten years the require you to retake them. A few of my classmates are in this situation. So if you are not planning to enter nursing school for 15 years you might want to consider just taking classes like math, english, humanities, etc. Good luck to you!

Floridapete,

Thanks for the info!  I hadn't considered how recent the classes would need to be, so I'll keep that in mind and maybe hold off a few years.

Cheers!
