As some of you know my wife works recruiting at a local hospital around here. She came home the other day talking about a nurse whom applied for a position at the hospital. Apparently the hospital lists all jobs weather they are open to outside candidates or internal ones on their website. They had a position listed for internal candidates only and was clearly stated in the advertisement on the website. Apparently a nurse applied to the position whom was an outside candidate and thus they promptly sent her a rejection email. The nurse replied to the email being irrate about being rejected and threatening to go to the hospitals CEO. At this point my wife's co-worker, who handles the nursing positions, called the applicant up to ask her if she had read the ad and inform her that she was not elgible for the position because it was an internal position only. The nurse was rude and irrate on the phone which ended in the recruiter hanging the phone up on her. The recruiter then immediately forwarded the email to the HR director and explained to him what had perspired. Needless to say this gal has now been put on the do not hire list for the hospital.

The moral to this story is put your best foot forward. When a candidate is rude, irrate, or threatening to those who are involved in the hiring process the results will be negative ones. Not only is poor taste but it also reflects directly at what kind of person/nurse they are and hospitals do take that into consideration.

Wo W! You Would think that Would just be common sense! Sounds like your Wife has lots of interesting stories! I look for Ward to meeting her.    Actually, the hospital & recruiters should be glad that the error ocurred. had it not, they may have hired that nurse, based on her credentials  & she may have acted out like that on a pt or staff member!

It's amazing some of the stories I hear about what goes on around there. People who apply for jobs but don't be completely honest on their applications. Several times I have heard about people applying for jobs being rude and expecting to get the job. Others who accept a position and then ask for more money after they have accepted the position. It's crazy. What's even more crazy to me is that people honestly believe they did no wrong or that people will react to them with civility while they are rude and crass themselves.

I am in the job market hunting right now too and understand the frustration that applicant felt, but never, never, never, in a million years would I ever go off on anyone who I would hope to hire me. How stupid can you be?

My frustration is in not hearing back from applications I've filled out and even hand delivered. From one company, I finally heard back after 2 months that they'll keep my application on file for a year.  The other frustration is that everyone wants your resume emailed, so sometimes you don't even know what company your inquiring to.  Even after I've interviewed and sent thank you notes, weeks go by, I call and leave a message to get a status and my calls aren't returned.  Sometimes I think I'm going about the job hunt all  wrong, but I don't know how else to do it.  Are there so many applicants that the employer doesn't feel they need to respond? I'm focusing my efforts in a specialized field: oncology and hospice. Anyone have any suggestions for me? I've been looking for work since May 1st!  My one drawback is that I have never worked in a hospital, so have no acute care experience. I've always worked in a clinic of sorts or convelesent facility. Would appreciate all feed back. Thanks.

GITANO_RN says ...

Pete, I'm elated that you have posted this information, now all of you can realize what we go through in management, I have endless  stories similar to the one that your wife shared with you Pete, and even here in NL, I'm frequently asked " WHY is it so hard to get a job?, why does it take so long for HR, or the recruiter to make-up their minds?"  here's an example offered by you Pete, this is one of the reason's I don't post my personal picture as my Avatar.  In addition, I had applicants call my secretary & stated to her that they were returning my call, or they were a cousin of mine in order to speak to me.  Moreover, I do understand that we are facing a hard economy in our Nation as well as all over the world, however, those impatience applicants will only jeopardize their apportunity in getting hired exibiting this imprudence behavior.  In conclusion, it's alright to call once a week to check on the status of your application, it's not acceptable to lie, or to become belligerent with your future employer.  Wishing all of you the best in your future endeavors................ALOHA~  from the Big Apple

I know at their hospital they have had candidates go directly to different directors and managers saying they have an interview and even in one case candidate showed up at hr saying that they were hired and was there to do paperwork when they hadn't ever applied to the hospital and the director didn't even know the person.
