I am just curious as to why schools use companies that take advantage of students.

Why should it cost a student $200-300 for a couple of scrub uniforms for nursing schools?

http://www.scrubcabana.com could do exactly the same type of uniforms for less than $100 and give you top ramen for 6 months.

I hate companies that prey on students who are trying to make a better life for themselves and their future.

Just my 2 cents worth.  Please share your thoughts and opinions.

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!!! I am getting ready to start class and my uniforms are to be; white pants (which I am NOT the biggest fan of), blue polo shirts, a white shirt that zips up the front, and white leather sneakers, no clogs, Crocs, or canvas allowed! The shoes alone are expensive because they have to meet a certain "criteria". I have been searching high and low for white pants that you can't see thru, and can't afford them because they're $30+ per pair! I'm also in desperate need of some help here! On top of all this I find that the books are getting even higher in price. I have 2 classes this semester and the books are $550!!! How can they do this???? Any suggestions?

I have had the best luck with Cherokee workwear. I wear white tops and blue pants and it is so hard to find tops that you can't see through! I have tried a million kinds over the years and the people who design scrubs need a serious talking to. I need practical! No low-cut v necks where I have to boil in another shirt underneath! Not see-through! Good gracious. I am a nurse, I need a little modesty. Anyway, the workwear seem to be a little heavier and they feel good, though they are stiff initially from the heavier fabric. They last longer and wash well. I use hot water and bleach to keep them nice, not recommended but I like them white and clean.

When I was a student I was able to buy used uniforms from the graduating class ahead of me. Have you looked into that at all? Also- look online for scrubs, I get them much cheaper from a couple of places online then from the local uniform shop. You have to know what you are getting of course since it is a hassle to return them, but if you find something that works you can stick with it.

Because you are buying a 'licensed' product.  The School/College/University gets a 'cut' of every item sold. Kind of like when you buy a 'name brand' anything.  Some schools simply require a certain color of uniform/scrub and sell you a patch to sew on the arm.

The REAL rip-off is BOOKS!  Unless they are timeless, like a good anatomy atlas with color pics or a particularly good physical assessment book, again with pictures.

I am in agreement with Bill Gates on the book issue, especially when it comes to online courses.

I never bought books. In Ohio a college library is linked to all other college libraries in the state. I just searched for the book and got it there. Yes some were the previous edition, but they really do not change that much. Free to take out and I could keep them three weeks with the ability to renew them twice. So even if I needed them for longer than 9 weeks the late charge was only a few dollars per book compared with paying ful price.

So you cannot buy scrubs online even if they meet the standards at your school? In order to save money, I went to Scrubs123.com to get my scrubs. http://www.scrubs123.com is the site if you are interested. We had to wear solid color scrubs and I was able to get them at the site.

I know what you mean! They are very pricey, so I asked if I could look elsewhere and order on my own to save money, but I had to order from the specific company that was chosen by the school because we have to have our name/name of school stitched into each scrub piece. So I had to buy a minimum of two scrub tops, two scrub bottoms, and a jacket.... which I completedly understand. However, the special stitching was $5 a piece, which was a rip off! $25 extra dollars for that.

Oh well, at least I am on my way to being a nurse, which I am excited about!! However, as a student, I'd still like to save some money! lol
