NursingLink is looking for another moderator to help keep our nursing community engaged and talking! As a moderator you'll set a good example to other members, take an active part in discussions, and keep offensive content off the forums. If you aren't shy and love to keep the conversation going, we want to hear from you!

More Responsibilities:

• Delete inappropriate posts including: inflammatory or rude posts and spam

• Guide new users to the appropriate groups or forum topics

• Keep everyone respectful

• Must maintain a working knowledge of the nursing field

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• At least 2 stars

• At least 100 forum posts
(We will still consider new candidates who do not meet these requirements)

How to Apply:

Please fill out how you would respond to each scenario:

Scenario 1:  A new "user" approaches several top users via Personal Message. The recipients of these messages come to you complaining about the spam.  What actions would you take?

Scenario 2:  A very active user (within the top 10 of the leaderboard) starts getting very personal in arguments on the boards, posting borderline inflammatory statements.  What is your response?

Scenario 3: A user has a differing opinion from you about a political, religious, or morally controversial issue.  How do you respond in the forum?

Please send your responses to info@nursinglink.com, and we'll contact you if we think you're a right fit!

Scenario 1:  I would investigate the claim by first examining the posts and making the determination of whether or not anything written by the new user was inappropriate or offensive to the top users. Second, I would also try to verify if the individual who made the statements was the actual "new" user or someone else on that user's account pretending to be said user. And third, If situation can not be resolved then said user's account should be temporarily banned from site and/or eventually permanently banned based on determination.

Senario 2:  Investigate comments made to determine whether or not statements are inflammatory or offensive. Response is to first warn user then if situation can not be resolved, then with user must be banned from site temporarily if not permanently.

Senario 3:  If user has differing opinion then me, then that is fine, we do not have to always agree on politics, religion or moral issues. That is free speech as long as it is not used to incite violence or hatered.

Quick Question: Is this a paid position, or strictly volunteer? Additionally, how many hours, per week, are required? I am definitely interested. Thank You

The position is unpaid, so we're looking for invidivuals who love being a part of our community to help be our eyes and ears. There's no amount of minimum hours required for the position - we just ask that you keep the community engaged and polite. We want Nursing Link to be a place where all nurses can come and share advice, express their opinions, and simply talk to one another!

Scenario 1- If there are complaints, then they must be addressed. I believe that we have standards for using this site and choices which one can make as to whether or not to receive personal emails. It would be important to remind the new user of the unapproved communication IF the complainants do not exercise their right to NOT open the emails.  In general, it is like open telephone lines. There is NO law that says we MUST answer either the telephone or any unwanted email. Responsibility exists on both sides of this issue.

Scenario 2- Personal attacks are NEVER acceptable in any kind of blog, chat room, etc. any more than they would be face to face. As this is supposed to be a site for professional nurses and aspiring ones, it is necessary for the 'seasoned' users to act in a professional manner in order to maintain a credible, useful and respectable site.  Every nursing school which utilizes computers for communication and/or assignments has rules of 'netiquette'.  The moderator would issue a warning to the offender reminding him or her of the 'rules of engagement' of this site and if necessary, remove the post(s).

Scenario 3-One of the greatest freedoms that we enjoy in this country is the ability to express differences of opinion under the First Amendment without fear of reprisal or punishment under the law SO LONG AS the practice of freedom of speech does not attempt to incite riots, violence or overthrow of the government. In other words: It is OK to agree to disagree so long as the disagreement does not escalate to threats or personal attacks which have NOTHING to do with the intellectual exchange of ideas. One persons' right to freedom of expression ends where the next persons' right to peace and freedom from personal attacks begin.

Best of luck in selecting a new moderator. I am sure you will have a lot of good candidates to go through.

Ok this is a forum for adults and not people who act like children. As adults we are given certain guildlines that we have to go by. They are called policies and protocols. So otherwords if  you play in the good sandbox , you stay. Go over to the one where there is no rules, policies and protocols, not good things will happen. Act like a nurse and you will be respected, as alike a fool and you will find your self out of a job. Nursing is a very proud profession, it let some small error mess it up!
