and some as ‘His’ work. - Baba

A Buddhist Zen Master  was giving a lesson to his students on dealing with stress, often referred to as  Stress Management.  He raised a glass of water and asked his students,

“How heavy do you think this glass of water is?”

His students’ answers ranged from 2 ounces to 1 pound.

The Zen Master replied, “The absolute weight does not matter:  It matters on how long you hold it.”

He continued, “If I hold it a minute, it is OK.”

“If I hold it for one hour, I will develop an ache in the arm holding the glass of water.”

“If I hold it for one day, you will probably have to call an ambulance for me.”

“It is the exact same weight, but the longer it, the heavier it becomes.”

“If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on, the burdens becoming increasingly heavier.”

“What you have to do is put the glass down, and rest for a while before holding it again.”

‘We have to put down the burden periodically, so that we can be refreshed and are able to carry on.”

“So before you return home tonight, put down the burdens of your life.  Don’t carry them back home.  You can pick them up again tomorrow.”

“Whatever burdens you are carrying on your shoulders, put them down for a moment if you can.  Pick them up again later when you have rested.  Rest and relax.  Life is short.  Enjoy it.”

"People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them

anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior

motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat

you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be

jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be

forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best

you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway."

The most ineffective response to criticism is to become angry, insulted and defensive. When you do that, you actually give a lot more power and credibility to that criticism
