Hello all I am new to the group and want to say hi. I left nursing 15 years ago and have recently taken a RN Refresher course and completed it. I have just received my RN License in the great state of Kansas and am looking for work. I just turned 45 yesterday and it seems like the responses to my applications are getting a cool reception. Is this normal or just the start? Nice to meet you all:)

Hi - Welcome!

I'm an administrator. They don't care abut your age... it's the economy! It will take a while but you'll find something. The last two RN's I hired were in their 50's & 60's.

Hi damedemi....welcome!  CaptainEric is a wealth of info on this site.  He has lots of experience is several professions and he gives great advice.  I really have nothing to add except that I think it is wonderful you decided to return to nursing.  In my opinion, older nurses make the best nurses.  I say that because I am older  but mainly because I feel as though someone our age has much more life experience.  We see things differently than a woman in her 20's or even 30's.  I tend to feel we are more patient and tolerant as well.  That's not to say that there aren't some awesome younger nurses because there are, but please don't feel like your age is a roadblock.  Just keep sending out that resume and keep your head up!
