I am about to make my initial application for licensure. On the application they have a question that asks: Have you had a problem with, been diagnosed as dependent upon, or treated for mood-altering substances, drugs and alcohol?  Have you been diagnosed as dependent upon/addicted to, or been treated for, dependence upon medications?  As a recovering alcoholic the answer is yes, though I have not been to treatment nor have I been formally diagnosed. I have been sober for over 24 years and I am wondering if that bears any weight with the Nursing Board or not.   Any recovering alcoholics out there that have wrestled with this question and have comments or suggestions I would be greatly appreciate your feedback.
