Have any of the HIV/AIDS nurses had any experiences working with infected patients in Africa?

A friend of mine has been on 5 missions with MSF (Doctor's Without Borders), all in Africa. She loves it and has become a real nomad of sorts. Now she feels like she can't stay in one place too long. Her longest missions have been 6 months long.

I think the article today on the front page is an excellent look at this crisis. Even one of the most wealthy men in the world isn't fixing all the issues. We need to start from the ground up to tackle this problem.

Maybe when I retire I could devote the time to volunteering... nothing to be over here for

I would love to work in Eastern Europe... like Africa, they are seeing skyrocketing cases of HIV/AIDS, especially among children. Which, I suppose, is to be expected in a region where abortion is the primary method of birth control...

If you want to go to Africa via mission trip, though, I would DEFINITELY check out the ultimate goals of that mission; because I'll tell you right now, an abstinence-only agenda will only result in more AIDS patients.

I don't understand your thinking abortions cause AIDS/HIV I'd like to know your reasoning for this statement

I'm with you dmazement! I don't quite understand about the abortions.... I am thinking (since a child born infected will die with in a year of birth) that perhaps it's because of childhood prostitution over there. I read an article in some paper not too long ago about babies as young as three being "sold for the evening" by their mothers. The mothers would call sex NumNum or something and when they would tell the little girls that they would be getting numnum these little girls would get so excited because they new they would be getting a treat afterwards. Talk about innocense lost. I couldn't help but cry thinking about these poor little babies.  ...... And then of course in a country over-run with AIDS there are plenty of other opportunities for a healthy child to come incontact with it.
