Hi pilaroka,

Ok if you have a bag of normal saline with 250ml in it divide that by 3hours and you are going to set the IV pump to run at ________ml per hour.  250ml divided by 3 hours=_______ml/hr

Now think about it......there are a total of 30mg of amphotericin  B in the solution. If you give 30mg total in 3 hours then you give ______mg/hr. or  30mg divided by 3hours=____mg/hr

Let me know what you get and I will  be happy to help you more if you need it, now or any time.

It always helps me to write the units involved to make it easier to keep straight in my head what I am working with and trying to find out.

Good luck.

What are you wanting to do with the 30mg?  The volume is the key point here, not the dosage.  If giving 30mg of amp-B over 3 hours is safe, you just need to do the math with your volume.

Thanks RNdude for the wake up call.....

Pilar, please be so very careful in medication calculations. Dont get lost in the math and forget all of the facts at hand. First you must know if what is being ordered if appropriate for the diagnosis, second if the amount is safe for the patients age size and recommended dose, and if it is mixed in the appropriate solution. Remember the answer could also be I would not administer this medication due to unsafe.....

Please take a moment, as I just did , and look up the med you were asking about.......
