Posted over 2 years ago Hi everyone, I am not a nurse but I am a residential counselor at a human services agency. My issue is that I'm feeling really ashamed because I've made like 7 med errors in the last year. The first two years of work I didn't have any, and then suddenly they just popped up one time 3 at a very close time together, and then after that one here and one there. I'm curious to know how many med occurences people who administer meds make, if any, and what they do to move on and learn from them. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Hi NineLives, that's a clever suggestion but unfortunately that's probably not the solution. I know my med occurances are due to burn out and stress at the work place, and they have never been serious occurances. My best bet is to refocus and go back to the drawing board of doing all the checks and being focused. Thanks for your supportive thoughts! :-) |

Look over all meds and time to be given as one of the first things you do on shift. Then give yourself as much time as possible to give your meds. |

| Posted over 1 year ago Cherish_316 is correct!!!!! Med Administration takes time-have to know what you're giving, to whom you're giving it, and why you're giving it!!!!! I say, you can't take too much time with a pt's. safety or your license-get the picture!!!!!!! Safety checks with all meds for all patients-don't care how many times you think you've got it!!!!!!!! Believe me, checks are extremely critical, especially with 20-30 patients and you give all meds!!!!!!!! |
