| Posted about 5 years ago I am new to nurselink and after reading all the comments on this topic I am really wondering why? First of all, Dare I say it. (I don't know).........Oh well, here goes......I have all prereqs for the RN program done except for a and p. Which I have failed/dropped 7 times! Oh Oh I said it. Now you're going to think I should'nt be a nurse at all. But... the first time I failed/dropped was because I switched jobs in the middle of the semester and they put me on 2nd shift. Single mom that I am (I had no choice) 2nd time I failed/dropped was because I got a kidney stone and was down for the count nearly 12 days!!!!!! Just could'nt catch up. (At the college I attend A and P is a 1 semester course and It moves fast) 3rd time my teen was having major problems and had to be hospitalized. (could'nt concentrate) 4th time there was death in my immediate family and I had to step up to the plate and get things under control. 5th time was really fun. My daughter ran away from home and joined the circus! (Well it might as well have been the circus) 6th time believe it or not I got another kidney stone! (It was almost 1 year later to the day) 7th time my Dad went on hospice and I had to lessen my hours and work just to take care of him. Anyway life happens. One never knows. Don't ever give up on your dreams. Don't ever give up. Our Clinical Director of the hospice I used to work at (who I have the highest regard in her professionalism for) used to say, "Life is to be lived until you die." |

Maybe if bjconner had been offered to have the test questions read to her or took the test on paper she would have passed on the first try. Don't judge lest ye be judged. Stacie |

| Posted about 5 years ago bj: Here are some suggestions that one of my professors gave me on taking the NCLEX. Ask yourself "what is the question really asking" When you are looking at the possible answers and they all appear to be correct ALWAYS, ALWAYS go to your ABC's Airway, Breathing, Circulation and then Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs. If an answer contains "always" or "never" it most likely isn't right. Try to allow yourself enough time before you take the test to relax. Don't give up! Keep trying until you pass! I take my NCLEX in a couple of months and I'm scared to death. Your original posting has been an inspiration to me that if I don't pass I WILL KEEP TRYING. GOOD LUCK!!!! Stacie |

| Posted about 5 years ago You have worked very hard to get to this point. DON'T GIVE UP! Relax, trust in yourself that you have done well up to this point, you are putting too much pressure on yourself and making things harder than what they probably really are. Do the study cards and breathe!

| Posted about 5 years ago I have read this forum and in it I see caring, honesty, and more than a little lack of tactfulness. You never fail at something until you quit trying to acheive it. I am a 47 year young lpn student, I went to US army medic school twice, The first Time I had to leave for a family emergency, and when I got home I had three broken ribs and pneumonia, but after I took care Of my personal problems I went back to medic school and did it again. I was nearly twice the age of the four hundred and some people in my company but I never quit ever. I finished around fifth in my class with a 96,3 gpa, I worked hard and I showed the kids around me that working hard gets you through the tough times. If you want something in life fight for it work hard and if you fail work harder, maybe you need to try a new way of test taking or even learning, but if a nurse is what you want to be then you will be a nurse, but not by quiting. just so you know I'm being deployed before I can finish my school, but the first thing I'm doing when I get back is taking the NCLEX, and while I'm gone I'll study for my RN. I'll quit chasing my dreams when they put the last nail in the lid of my coffin. Remeber First you dream a dream, then you work for that dream, and thats when dreams finally come true. |

| Posted about 5 years ago I totally agree with you nilrem, dont stop trying, perhaps you have to double your effort. If you have already read the books that you needed to read then maybe test taking strategies is what you need, but there is a big factor also when taking the exam, you have to overcome your nervousness because it really ruin your concentration. If you have already read the question twice but still you did not understand it, take a few seconds to relax yourself, you can pray too if you like...Good luck! |
