| Posted over 5 years ago I have just begun my second semester of the ADN nursing program which consists of Health Alterations, Health Promotions, Clinical-Management, & Clinical-Lifespan. Clinicals include 8 weeks Med-Surg and 4 weeks OB. I am anxious and excited. (I wasn't really ready to get back to school after break, but the quicker I get back to it the quicker I can move forward.) Good luck with studying and the boards!! What are you using for study resources? What are your favs? |

| Posted over 5 years ago I have alot of study tools. I am using Thomas and Peterson and The Learning Express for the Nursing Entrance exams. I am using Lippincott and Saunders to study for my LVN boards. My favorite are the C'D roms study tools, I am a visual learner. Thank you for your inspiration, and good luck in your second semester of nursing school. I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. | Posted over 5 years ago Nurse Practitioners have an equal level (and in my mind superior) base of education than PA's. They train future Nurse practitioners as well because what NP's do is within the scope of PAs and NP's. Doctors don't get all their training from other doctors either: I know a guy in New Orleans who teaches pulmonology at a medical school. He is a respiratory therapist, not a doc. |

| Posted over 5 years ago I just started my final semester two weeks ago! I can't wait to graduate in May! I hear it takes a few months to take the NCLEX though. That doesn't make sense to me. We shouldn't have to wait that long to take the test. grrrrrr You can't work as an RN until you pass that test. Which I understand but I hate that we have to wait. Oh well, I'm almost there! |

| Posted over 5 years ago PAs have far less experience than NPs. One can become a PA in four years. NPs are first RNs with a BSN and at least two years experience in most states before going for the MSN. Most PAs that I know never set foot in a hospital for a living prior to the PA program. Also, in most states PAs are not licensed, they work under the doc's license only. |

| Posted over 5 years ago I think PA should be changed to PiA..........Pain in Arse.........which I have found a great many of them to be! I didn't realize new grads couldn't practice nursing until their boards were passed. I could practice as a Graduate Nurse, way back in the dark ages. |

| Posted over 5 years ago Dmazment, I think this is something that has recently changed. And it is also different state to state. New grad RN's used to be able to get a temporary license that they could practice on until they passed NCLEX. I was counting on this so I could start working. But, in Colorado (where I intend to work) they changed it. Many hospitals won't even let you apply for a job until you have passed NCLEX. This has me worried. I really want to take NCLEX asap after graduation. I know that I have to wait for a letter giving me permission to take the test and this may take a month or so after I graduate. Can anybody recommend a city/state where I can take the NCLEX more quickly? They say the the Pearson Testing Centers get overwhelmed in the summer time due to the high number of graduates needing to test. I am willing to travel if anybody has any suggestions. |

| Posted over 5 years ago I think it is the same everywhere. It is 30 to 120 days to receive clearance to test here in California also. You have to register to take the test within 6 months too. I have until June of this year to register to take the LVN boards. In Calfornia, after completion of a RN program, you can work with a IP permit, until you take your first NCLEX exam, which is within six months. Thank you everybody for the one on one info on the differences from the PA from the NP, I knew the NP had more knowlegde under their belt, but I thought a Doctor had to teach them, just like a doctor has to teach a MA. | Posted over 5 years ago Pharmacology has been a problem for me all along and I am in my final semester. I can't seem to get all those drugs memorized... |

| Posted over 5 years ago The key to this is to try to memorized the different drugs by catagory. That's what my pharm, teacher told me. She said she still can't memorize the different drugs, and the new drugs that are out. She see picture the type of drug, nsaids, etc, and it's classification, then you can recall the name of the drug, from its brand name, and generic name, and know your control substances, when I study, I get my drug bible which is the Lippincott drug guide, and I look up different drugs, by its classification, etc. antihypertensions, and antimicrobals, and anti-parkinson medications. Good Luck!!! I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California. I've worked as a heathecare provider for almost 10 years. | Posted over 5 years ago I just turned in my "official" application to the nursing curriculum and will hopefully be starting the accelerated program for second degree students this summer. This semester I'm finishing my pre-reqs with A&PII, Microbiology, Medical Terminology ... and karate (I needed one more credit hour and it's a great stress reliever!) |

| Posted over 5 years ago I am in my 1st semester of an ADN program. Here in Pennslyvania you can work as a graduate nurse until you pass your NCLEX. If you fail the NCLEX the 1st time though, you can't work as a graduate nurse anymore and can only work as a tech then. It takes about a month I think my friend said to get your temp license (she graduates in May) to work as a graduate nurse. I think you can take your NCLEX within 6 weeks though or something of graduation. I am also pretty sure that you have to take the NCLEX in the state that you are going to practice in too. |

| Posted over 5 years ago You can apply to test in a compact state, as long as you plan to work in the other compact states. Here is a list of those states who participate. https://www.ncsbn.org/158.htm This as far as I know is RN and LVN/LPN. |

| Posted over 5 years ago Here in CALI, the rules are the same, but you can apply in any state once you pass the state boards. I here you don't have to take the NCLEX over in another state, but if you have a license in another state, you have to take the NCLEX exam over again for this state, don't that sucks!!! Good luck in your first semester of nursing school. I am a proud mother of three beautyful daughter. I currently live in Los Angeles California.
