Posted over 2 years ago Hi everybody! I'm a new member, and would like some help with a debate project I am working on. i am currently in my senior year for my BSN, (I went back to school) and one of the class projects is debating the pros and cons of ADN and BSN prepared nurses. My team is on the con side, in other words we "support" the notion that ADN prepared nurses are as well prepared as BSN nurses, and that there should not be any difference between ADN's and BSN's. Of course the other side is supporting BSN's as being the bare minimum requirement for employment among other reasons for having BSN nurses only caring for our patients. Any thoughts? All comments will be appriciated!!!! |

| Posted over 2 years ago Medical instruction ( I am not an M.D.)-I am an R.N.) places great emphasis on medical reasoning while nursing instruction denigrates the same as inimical to nurses "separate professional" status substituting "nursing diagnoses" as the ultimate approach for the professional nurse? While BSN students receive additional course work, they continue to be force fed the aforementioned illogical, self defeating, and sexist (it tends to portray women in general and nurses, in particular, as incapable of "medical reasoning" propaganda) rejection of medical reasoning as the basis of nursing education and care. Because of the aforementioned, BSN programs do not produce graduates who have superior knowledge nor reasoning skills to ADN nurses, in my opinion. Nursing, as the medical profession does, must embrace medical reasoning as the norm rather than clinging to the sexist, illogical, and self defeating "nursing diagnoses" . If that occurs, then true differentiation between an BSN and ADN might occur as the application of medical reasoning based upon medical facts will be more highly developed in the BSN over the ADN. I have an ADN and hold a B.S. in Biochemistry.

| Posted over 1 year ago ADN/BSN:::::::::: easy dont put off getting your BSN. I did, and now that everybody in Northwest Georgia who knows my mother <she's a travel agent and her mouth travels faster than any jet I saw on TV. As a disabled human who still has her nursing license active, I know I'll never be able to work where I was happiest <homehealth with my sweet elderly folk>. Im a walking workers comp claim. I plan on getting my BS but in Healthcare Administration, I think. No hands on patient care but I would still be in health care. I have MS, but MS doesnt have me...............Im blessed and know many have it much worse than I do. My advice to those ADN'S who say they are "as good as the BSN"............yup........but when they realize the thing they want more requires the BSN, maybe they'll listen. I wanted my WOCN more than anything. I know its not as glamorous as nurse practitioner or other higher levels of education, but it truly made me happy. Anyhow more doors open professionally for BSN's than ADN's. Cheers, and toodles! |
