Hello fellow nurses and new grads,

I got my RN license in March 2009, and was immediately accepted into a Certified Nurse Midwifery and Women's Health NP program. Because I haven't been able to find a nurse residency, I am now losing my place in the class. That is, with straight A's, I have flunked out of school because I haven't been able to find a nurse residency.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to approach a hospital looking for a job? Before I went through nursing school, I did public heatlh work, and it seems my "successful" resume doesn't get me any points with those hiring new grads. It's as though "new grad" has become a bad, nasty word for the underclass of the nursing profession.

I'm stuck, and don't know where to go. Anyone have suggestions?

Does your university not have hospitals set up for residency programs?

If you haven't worked as an actual nurse since March of 2009, you're not very marketable from a hiring standpoint.  As far as the residency is concerned, I have no clue.

This statement concerns me very much as I graduated as an RN in May of 2010, licensed in June 2010 and am still looking for employment as an entry level nurse!

To date I have filled out 193 applications- in anything having to do with medical, and some- not. I am single, and do not collect any source of income, and am running out of options! Very worried!!!!
